Asus Xonar Essence - Headset Recommendation

Beyerdynamic DT770 pro (80 ohm) = £132
Blue Microphones ********* = £48
Total = £180

video unboxing and demo of the *********

The Beyerdynamic MMX 300 is basically the DT770 with an added mic, so they are in effect charging £120 for the mic.
As you have a powerful amp in the STX, you can also get the 250 ohm version of the DT770 pro, which will have slightly better controlled bass and a curly cable (the 80 ohm version has a straight cable)

How do AKG 550s compare to the philips fidelio x1s...considering the AKG can be found for about £80 less.

The 550s are very good at that price. They start out a little flat, but soon warm up with some hours put on them. They don't need an amp, but they are better paired with one.

From what I've read the x1's pack more of a punch. Certainly more bass orientated.

The K550 are very plain sounding, not much stands out. They are thin sounding and lack that immersive feeling. Soundstage is average on them and they are cold sounding.

X1 are a bit warmer, more spacious with a bit more of a fuller sound. The bass is less controlled and they are a grainy sounding headphone lacking body in the mids.

I'd look into something that has good body, excellent mods with a full bass for both immersion and good positional audio. Look into

AKG K612
DT770

The DT770s get decent reviews, how common on 'high' end headphones is it to have cable issues? and can they be opened if the cable needs replaced? I ask because i've had a lot of small in-ear/bud headphone cables go stiff and horrible.

Are rain forest warehouse products just packaging damage or could the product itself have minor damage?
nm apparently they don't include the full manufacturers warranty.

Thanks for the recommended choices but I think I have my heart set on Sennheiser G4ME ZERO, they just look and sound very appealing. Read a lot of reviews and not really seen any bad points although buying a mic and headset separate sounds a great idea for full concentration of the sound on headset, although I dont like the sound of having a separate mic hanging about! but again thanks for the recommendations!

If you unfasten the poppers on the headband and take a look underneath, you'll find that all that's underneath it is a steel band. You can safely hold one cup in each hand (ooh er missus) and just pull them apart, don't go nuts, it's spring steel but even that has it's limits. Do that a little and you should be able to ease the clamping force.

Absolutly brilliant! glad I kept sound card and went for high end headset!

The headset themselves feel very platinum and well made. Sound is crystal and very comfortable to wear, WINNER in my eyes and thats off the first days use!!

definitely recommendations are going to be thrown out on these bad boys so far!!
