Am I mad to buy Beats Powerbeats2!?

I know I know, Beats is overpriced and just trendy etc. etc. but hear me out....

I want a new set of earphones for both
  • Walking to work
  • Use at the gym

I would REALLY like
  • 'Sports' style (ie not over head or bands etc.)
  • Bluetooth Connectivity (presumably APTX nowadays? A2DP good enough?)
  • Decent sound, build quality, battery life, lightweight etc. etc.

I currently have a set of nearly dead SoundMagic E30's (iffy jack connector) that honestly I've not been too impressed with soundwise. I also have Ultrasone HFI 580's for while I'm sat at my desk, closed back is necessary in the office (so I am aware of non-Beats brands :p).

I just can't see anything else on the market that matches up with the Powerbeats2? It just so happens they match up perfectly with my requirements aswell.

I would live a pair of EarIn's but I'm not prepared to wait that long for them, nor pay that much for what is basically an unknown.

Ideas? Alternatives?

I see no reason to buy headphones designed for sports over normal ones. I wear my IEMs over-ear and have never had an issue with them failing out either mtbing, running or when lifting, so dont really see the point in wireless.

The design often adds to cost and hence detracts from sound quality at that budget. In my opinion, the best bet would be to look at the Jaybirds JM3 or standard IEMs that can be worn over-the-ear.

And yes, you are positively insane to buy Beats - whilst they have improved recently, they are still simply awful for the money.

The only beats that sound good are Solo HD 2014, Studio 2013, Pro & detox. The rest sound pretty bad I think. The Power beats were not good. Get a used V Moda M100 for about £130 and while they are not great they are ok sounding and won't go anywhere due to the clamp.

Bro did you even read the thread, those cans are massive! :p I already have some Ultrasone HFI 580's for over head listening at work. I have reviews of the Powerbeats2 saying they follow the 'new' beats sound signature introduced with the Solo HD 2014, so on the right track at least.

Thanks for the alternatives guys, Jays BlueBud X looks good aswell.

Really "Bro" ;) the M100 massive?? They are tiny! The ultrasones dwarf the M100. Reason why I recommended them is because they can actually handle physical activity while being small with good clamp. If you are set on the beats then go for the beats your ears may like them.

I guess for over-ears, they're small but still not really what I'm after. I'm glad to have found a few alternatives in the Jaybirds BlueBuds X & Denon AH-W200, though I'll wait for the Powerbeats2 release (July 22nd afaik?) anyway and hopefully see some of them in the flesh before deciding.
 
Haha I like the HD650, AKG 65th and DT770 the most Haha :) I've just been on a big journey to try every headphone so I don't get the upgrade itch!
 
Beats were good when they were with Monster then they left and became just awful rubbish.
I have some monsters which are awesome. But I didn't pay for them so that's a bonus.
Studio monsters are good but you can get better for your buck
 
all the reviews say the new beats are the best of the bunch. frequency response and distortion was all over the place on most of the monster range, does not a good headphone make. it looks like they've made a lot of progress with the new range.
 
I cant find a good review on the cheaper scale of the beats? AM i missing something somewhere? Thats not to say i have looked hard

You'd be better off with some AKG 550 or some Sennheiser Momentum's though im not a huge fan of in ear headphones. I do have some Bose ones and they are very good. BUt i am sure there are loads better
