Fallout 3 Broken Steel

Hi all,

I am struggling to get broken steel going.
Read the net and needed to activate it in data options, thought that would do it but no.....

So I have done that, at the end of the game, it then loads on screen the broken steel will let me play to level 30.

I finish the game credits roll and take me to start menu.

Not really sure what to do now, I do not want to play the entire game again on the off chance it will work.

Oh game of the year edition in steam,

Broken steel itself is the dlc, after you complete or playthru with broken steel, it opens up levelling but in addition radiosignals and encounters at certain points will have chnaged, find a brotherhood patrol, or go to the base for the quest starts.

Ah I was under the impression from reading things on the net, that after you complete the game broken steel lets you play on!

It does...it retcons the end of the game.

Hmmm,

I think I will go back a few saves and just do the dlc's from there after some research. I just assumed you had to finish the game to play them.

I was sure the DLC happens AFTER you complete the game.

The story events are dependent on some choices you made...

Broken Steel does not work until you completed the main game once I thought you had to be using a save which meant you had finished the game once before it would work so beat it once then it should become active as a quest.

The base game of fallout 3 has an ending that is dependent on a choice you make. This triggers a cut scene and the end of the game. You get dumped back to the start screen.

If you have broken steel installed. The level cap is increased.
All the above still occurs but instead of being dumped at the start screen you wake up somewhere else,there is a story fudge and you can continue to play the game. Completing any other quests, any other DLC and also starting and playing through the broken steel story line.

The other 3 DLCs have no pre-requestits and can be triggered, started and played though at any time.

This is what I thought, I read through some more walk throughs and one suggested if you

Do not use the purifier and just die, then regardless of broken steel or not, it ends. I have to play and use it/get someone else to use it for me

As it is I have started one of the other dlcs from an earlier save, once I have done that I will go back and give the above a try!

It is definitely installed as my level cap has been increased.
