Battle of the 290's!

Cant complain about the Tri X cooler, Running at around 40-50% under full load and holdng temps at 75 without issue, all the while remaining pretty quiet! Makes me think twice about w/c it.

MSI Gaming Edition for £299 is pretty sweet. I like mine, though two of them do get toasty. Running one is always pretty quiet. Haven't compared noise to other brands though

While there's no doubt that the PCS+ & Tri-X are the best bang for buck atm, I'm very happy with my Asus DCUII. It runs pretty cool and quiet on a relaxed fan profile, and even came with a free headset! :D

Interesting, seems the Tri-X is the favourite with the Vapor close by, MSI getting love too while the Asus and Vtx are unloved.

Looking at the current deals the Gigabyte WF3 and Powercolour Pcs+ should come close to the Tri-x as they have similar out of the box performance and actually are both cheaper currently than the Tri-x on OCUK.

I know Matt isn't sold on the Pcs+ as some are Elpida where as the Tri-x is garaunteed to be Hynix, and the Gigabyte is traditionally more expensive I guess?

Seems like a great time to be buying a 290 and I think even more so highlights the difference between a 290 and 290x mostly coming down to negligae gains for a lot more cost.

Now if we add Nvidia cards into the same bracket of performance per pound spent etc where do we stand?

Interesting so the cheapest 780's come in around the same price as the Vapor-X, how do they compare performance wise to the Vapor-x then on a straight up DX11 game, no Mantle involved? Am I imagining seeing performance reviews of the Vapor-x hitting around 780ti levels of performance?

IMO the Vapor-x is a better card for its money, the 290 is a little quicker than the 780 anyway, not that the difference is huge but the Vapor-x is a particularly good card.

In this order for price and what I like about them.

Powercolor, Sapphire Tri-X and then the MSI gaming edition. If you get a sale on you can get the Tri-X at the same price as the others @£299.99. Haven't heard much about VTX-3D so might be worth a look at them on google, I would ignore the Gigabyte and Asus though.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement Shanks. Can only recommend my Msi Gaming 290, cool to look at, quiet and low temps. Not missed a beat since I installed it, currently on 14.6 on Win 7 and 8.1 update. :D

Yeah true mine never pass 76c when gaming they also like you said very quite.
I do believe though had the trix been released at time me buying 290s I think I would have went with them. And tbh I not sure why haaa kinder just go with everyone else on here.
IIt does seem to be the best card recommend by users.

Think its fair to say then that the Tri-X OC is the peoples choice for price per power delivered, with the Vapor-X being lauded as the champion for a little more cost?:)
