Daily Mail busted

As far as I can see, this is most likely fake. Richard Ferrer hasn't worked at the DM for six years. I suppose it's possible to spoof his own IP to appear like himself from six years ago, but if he knew how to spoof IPs I'm not sure why he wouldn't just pretend to be someone else?

He also happens to be Jewish. So looks like someone else is using his name as a good way to stir up religious tensions.

Not sure I'd ever see the day that I stood up for a Daily Fail journalist - former or otherwise.

The sad thing is, the next time the media says something about Islam, the public will still take it as absolutely accurate. :(

How can the world become a better place with corrupt organisations like this profiting off social destruction?

People enjoy toilet journalism. It's easy, written in a way that even the lowest common denominator can understand, sensational and makes everyone forget about their insignificant lives.

It's the 2nd most widely read paper in the country. Kinda says it all I suppose

Why would an ip from the DM be associated with a named person rather than a company?

My thought. Entirely believable for that paper though. Sorry, for a rogue journalist. Obviously Dacre would never sanction anything like that. If he could be found out.

It's known as a hostname. Some organisations use generic numbering. example: terminal-52a.organisation.net, and some will simply use the user's name if it's his own terminal eg john-smith.organisation.net. But the hostname doesn't really matter, it could be assigned to anything within that organisation. The important thing is the IP address is owned by them.

It's the rDNS for that IP. It's not totally unbelievable that they were set to the hostname of the PCs to try and make people accountable for stuff, and it's just not been updated since the guy left.

Edit: I assumed that reference in the forum was to the reverse DNS. It's not. I have no idea where that came from in that case.

Couldn't someone just as easily post a fake post then post as themselves in that thread with some information they simply make up claiming the original post came from a paper they wanted to discredit?

Where exactly did the IP info come from.. I genuinely don't care one way or the other. The Daily Mail only exists because people in this country read it and want that type of trashy news. You get what you ask for, if people were just... better.... the Daily Mail wouldn't exist and anyone else behaving similarly would be shamed and end up with a failing paper due to the way they practice.

The country(enough of it anyway) want the daily mail, and the crap they get up to, which is why they do it. This country doesn't deserve any better, till they want it to be better.

No need for reverse DNS. Forum software logs the IP address before resolving the host.

And from an from a simple IP Lookup that IP address is owned by DMG Media ltd.

If anyone got "framed" it's an ex Daily Mail employee by Daily Mail itself or its parent company DMG Media.
