Upcoming games to support Mantle

Upcoming/possible games using Mantle

Beside the smoother and less frame rate dips when the going got tough, i didn't expect less input lag as i use Vsync and i had to check that Vsync was on when i was running Mantle.

Yes, I've also noticed this. I used to think the input lag was completely removed, it's not but it is less than it is under DX. If you use an fps cap of 59, it's all but eliminated for me in BF4 using Mantle.

should help in large multiplayer games. Mantle has noticeably lower input lag to me as well. Makes a difference with 120hz and online play.

Yeah couple people have reported less input lag under Mantle. My guess is because the frame times are much better.

Indeed! even though there was no tearing because i was running Vsync, the reduction in lag did make me wonder if Vsync was actually active because if the frame rate is high enough tearing can became nearly unnoticeable and if the input lag is that good with Vsync i can only wonder what its like without and on a 120hz screen.

Without its like water, it just flows :D

What I do quite like is that more gams these days have console commands or config setting that allow you to limit the FPS. I prefer doing this to using VSync, but prefer VSync to screen tearing.

Your right, there could be even better implementations to come yet, no doubt they will with the 20+ games coming that we know of :)

You have to hope they'll be better. It'd be a 7-1 thrashing level ****-up if they managed to do a worse one than Frostbite (based on my experience).

The confusing thing is that we were told by AMD on their slides (I believe) that developers know what they're doing so can do it better, then the first example we see is Frostbite...

The VRAM thing and the fact it crashes after 10 seconds unless I alt-tab to the desktop and back. Doesn't matter if you're in a menu or in the game, once the game has loaded it will happen, doesn't matter what server.

Obviously the VRAM thing means my fps drops to near single digits (if not single digits, I seem to recall seeing a 3) and the game stutters and becomes unplayable. I don't think I've recorded any frametimes while it's happening, but I'll try to remember to so someone can make a graph.

that was happening on my 7870 LE....was due to fact drivers weren't completely cleaned out; took a couple tries with DDU and reinstall and now fine......just have to watch texture loads :)

If there is any grain of truth that GTA V is indeed getting Mantle support that would be a boon for all those kids playin on lowly budget systems or even ancient 5-6 year old platforms won't be inadequate or plagued by their comparatively low Ipc performance.

Rumour is that they're in the Mantle Beta program, or a gaming evolved partner but no official confirmation yet. It would be a great coup. However it's highly likely that only half or more of those games are correct.

Old article (jan14) but something that caught my interest based on what has been said recently by Videocardz.

GTA V Spotted Again In The Latest AMD Catalyst Drivers – Might Support Mantle

But this time around, GTA V has been included in the Catalyst 13.30 Beta Drivers which gives us a assumed possibility that it might exclusively support the Mantle API , which drastically reinforces certain graphical qualities and adapts to the system settings resulting in good performance with above par graphics. You can view the source code in the drivers below thanks to ELCID777 over at the Guru 3D forums .

Pretty sure it won't exclusively support Mantle though. :D

5-6 year old systems won't have a gpu that supports Mantle though.
Newer budget system may benefit though, assuming CPU would be the bottleneck in those systems. If the GPU is the bottleneck I'd expect smaller gains.

i know that GTA V is the kind of game that ppl invest a lot of time in, and potentialy update their rig for it, i honestly think that if this game comes with Mantle, AMD might sell quiet well.
who wouldnt upgrade just a gpu, instead of a gpu+mobo+cpu...

If GTA V is linked with Mantle, that would be pretty good but I sure hope to god that Rockstar do a better job than they did with GTA IV. The end mission I had to run fraps at 30fps recording to be able to complete it and Rockstar knew all about it but didn't bother to fix it. I find that very poor for such a great game.

Still, playing as Iron Man or the Hulk was pretty cool :D

Was talking about this other day. The problem with gta4 was the engine only ran on dual core, the game was released at a point when pc gaming was going multi core and multi Gpus.
Force gta4 to run on two cores and you see what I mean. So because of this it wasn't a easy thing to patch in.
The Engine as came along way since then and games that have used it show good results now.
Plus the added bonus of next gen using x86 platform should make the pc version also run better.

Finally some attractive games that use mantle :D

But I won't switch until AMD has moved past the aptly named volcanic heat sources that are Hawaii GPUs, and seen a sizeable improvement from the API.

Fortunately I can easily sell my 780 for more than I bought it.

Heat isn't a issue if you buy a GPU with custom cooling.

I had a 290 gaming and sent it back for a full refund after how hot and loud it got compared to my 680 Power edition.

It wasn't all bad, I loved the VRAM and how easy it was to overclock, but the GPU itself and specific driver problems at the time of purchase really held it back as a product.

Strange I have two and when gaming never pass 80c stay very quite also. Probably from reviews the most quite version of the 290s.
Also got mine on release week and yet to have any real driver issue performance wise. I did notice 14.6 made idle temps bit higher.
