V8 Vantage - leads to Jag XK purchase and then to V12 Aston

Purchased a Jaguar XK to see how I get along.

Much nicer to relax in the Porsche IMO.

One owner car with new dunlops all around, FDSH, adaptive cruise control etc.

Came up cheap...can't control myself :-

Will see how this goes and just keep an eye out for a vantage.

It's quite comfortable and i've never owned a jaguar before so why not ?

Adaptive cruise control is what swung it for me.

My Dad just bought a 2.5k miler 60 plate for just under 50% of new price: killer depreciation (for someone else) and he is enjoying it a lot. He's not had an auto before so is having to get used to that. The various sport modes really make a difference though when you want a 'drive'. Sounds good too.

An Aston is quite a different ownership experience, particularly when it comes to cost. He has both Aston and Jag dealers close by so it was a bit tempting to go with the Aston, but sensible head prevailed.

Can't believe I missed this thread when it came up.

I owned a 4.7 2011 for 6 months earlier this year. If I'm honest, it's the only car in the past few years that I truly miss and regret selling. If I ever get sick of the F430, I might buy another one.

The 4.7 is worth holding out for if you can since it has the newer interior and the vastly superior engine. Sports suspension is also available on the 4.7's which makes it a lot more exciting to drive.

If I was to sum it up quickly for you then I'd say the following.

Good:

Beautiful to look at,
Sounds incredible,
Lovely interior, no expense spared on materials,
Seats, truly the most comfortable and cool looking seats I've had,
*Incredble* audio system, mine had the Alpine setup and I've never experienced anything like it, jaw dropping,
It's an Aston Martin.

Bad:

Expensive to run,
F1 gearbox takes some getting used to at first,
Interior is getting a little long in the tooth,
Navigation system - it's just terrible,
Some parts on the exterior feel cheap, front grill, front splitter

I can honestly say mine was a joy to own and drive. I miss it like mad and should *never* have traded it for the F-Type. Despite being the inferior car, there's something special about owning an AM or Ferrari that you just don't get until you've actually purchased it (that and a huge hole in your wallet that never seems to stop bleeding).

I ought to apply a conclusion here.

I'm not really keen on this Jaguar. It's full of crap electrics, and the build quality is surprisingly less than I was expecting. It's not too bad but didn't live up to my expectations.

The most silly think are these accelormeters on behind the front bumper. In the engine bay there are 2 air bags that explode and push the bonnet up when there is an impact detected. It's to protect the pedestrian. The sensor is faulty. Also the headlight needs replacing as the adaptive lights stopped working. Luckily it's under warranty so once the work is done I will sell it.

Other than that it't pretty decent however I lust over a Vantage/DB9.

I am leaning towards a DB9 as I think that the novelty of going back to a manual will wear off quick. So hopefully in the next few weeks I'd have changed the XK for a DB9!

Those sensors are not fitted to American bound cars as they are not compulsory. It's only ROW cars that have to have them fitted and they are a PITA to disconnect once the engine has been fitted (no room for hands)

What do you think of it? I wouldn't mind an XK either but someone told me that only the XK-R (the supercharged one) is any good. I have a really relaxed drive style these days so don't need 500hp!
