The VW Corrado VR6 is the best VW ever made.

A Golf GTi in Bright Blue Metallic. Mk2.

With a passat R36 engine, yes please.

Personally I don't like Corrado at all.

I love the Mk3 Golf Vr6 but only because of DAT NOISE and a mk3 was my first car.

Mk2 Golf GTI imo....but then I'm biased. :D

That BBM....

Having not driven a 'rado or in fact any of the other VW offerings I actually don't know what I'd consider to be the best VW ever made. As I understood it the VR6 was a boat anchor of an engine anyway providing not that great a drive, I know lots of people don't like VR6 mk2s due to the nose weight being large. I like my 8v mk2 though.

Yes the VR6 is a heavy engine and it isn't alloy. It is quite a compromised design because of its size. I would never want one in a mk2. Indeed the handling on the G60 Corrado is better than the VR6 for that reason. But while it is compromised it was a clever design allowing a 6 cylinder engine to be put in engine bays with room for only a 4 cylinder.

I would probably rate the mk2 GTI 16v or Ralley the best VW but would still take the Corrado over the mk2 because of the mk2's now very industrial interior. Love both really.

Vr6 is all about the noise :)

The 2l.ABF was just as powerful as the vr almost and certainly lighter but Dat noise

Best sound ever AAA vr6 running a shrick vgi and cams and a free flowing exhaust and open cone

The noise :D

1. I think it looks rather odd especially at the back end and rear lights
2. I've not driven one so can't comment. Is the VR6 all alloy? even so i can't imagine having a big V6 at the front doing all that much for the handling.
3. It looks just a bland as everything else VW was making back then..
4. it sure is

:D

As per hades' post the car was designed around that issue, the only real issue with the handling though is that it can be quite unresponsive/vague and heavy (its not really heavy exactly but its the closest I can describe it) for driving around town, etc. get out on a good road or the track and handling is fine.

Eh? The 2l 16v in the 'rado was the 9A so about 136bhp - the ABF (used in the mk3 golf) was putting out 150bhp the ABV 2.9 lump was about 190bhp - not really the same power :)

But yeah - the noise of the VR is very addictive - open cones do get on your wick after a bit, so mine has gone back to a standard airbox (albeit with the snorkel removed for a little bit more noise than standard!)

You can tune the ABF to around 200hp quite easily, in fact the same modifications that take the 2.8 up to 200hp also. But the ABF lacks noise and midrange torque. Peaky not silky smooth.

Corrado G60 or Mk2 Golf Gti 16v for me.

How about this for an extension to this thread, the worst car VW have ever made is_________
I vote Mk4 2.0 GTI. What a woeful car.

Looks like a MK.3 Jetta was reversed into a wall at high speed.

1. I think it is one of the most ugly, if not the most ugly VW ever made. Honestly. And I love VW's...
2. The handling was great at the time, true.
3. The interior is bland and boring, it is the same as a MK.3 Golf interior!
4. Yes it is a coupé, so are lots of cars.

No the interior of the Corrado is not the same as a mk3 Golf although just like modern marques there are common cues across the cars. The mk3 was built better for a start. But that's because the Golf was assembled by VW and the Corrado was hand built by Karmann.

Yeah I just looked at them side by side, they are similar inside but not the same. My bad. :)
