Anyone owned a Suzuki Cappuccino? (Any other suggestions?)

less than 700cc engine means 199 euro tax. Seems to be giving 40mpg, fairly old, but liveable.

The biggest downside I can see is the 2 seats, horribly impractical. I'm over 190cm so it might be a bit of a squeeze, but liveable?

Anyone got any opinions on this car?

Currently I'm doing around 25,000 miles a year (non job related), but I reckon this is going to drop now that I've got a proper career job, where I only have to travel 1.5 miles to work.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Main considerations are:

Tax & Insurance (1yr license, 1 yr named driver, not quite 25yrs old).

Currently driving an Alfa Romeo 156. Doing me grand, but at the rate I'm doing its going to be need new stuff soon (timing, pretensioners, waterpumps, maybe clutch, tyres). I've got a fella that will buy it off me pretty cheaply (600 euros).

Main reason for changing is the fierce tax (636 on a 1.8), and insurance renewal which is pretty bloody high for a car with only 142hp!

Got an insurance quote for a suzuki cappuccino under 900 euro, (versus 1,200 for the alfa) and the tax is 199e for the year (instant saving of 437 euro)

So each year I'm reckoning I'll be saving over 700 euros just on these components alone, let alone my fuel bills (for which the alfa isn't great).

Thoughts? :)

Anyone with other suggestions? The two seats is the thing thats killing me here. So impractical.

edit: forgot to say, got a suzuki cappuccino lined up. No rust, excellent condition, 60k km's from new. Two owners from new. Looks pretty decent. They want 2,500 euros for it. So after selling Alfa, will cost me 1,900.

Savings alone suggest a couple year payback period, and I reckon it will hold its value well. ::)

Its bloody ridiculous. Even more unfair is the old car system. My car is worth a pittance, and yet tax for one year is more expensive than the cars worth. :/

Mazda MX5?

Strikes me as another of those rules made up by those who just stick that kind of crap on an expenses account. ;) :p

Mazda's engine puts it into a different category. Worth a consideration I guess.

I'm just enamoured with this particular car as its so unique. :o

And yes, you're absolutely right. The TD's and the like all have people that cart them round, and are so removed from everything.

Other suggestion: Honda Beat.

I'm only really considering this Kei car because I've got a line on a particularly nice one. Otherwise I'm not interested particularly. Also the 0-60 is 13 seconds!?

By far the worst problem with the Cappuccino is rust. If you have found a genuinely rust free one it's a very rare example.

I'm not particularly knowledgeable when it comes to cars. Can't see any obvious rust on the outside, and they claim its completely rust free.

It was painted 3 years ago though. Is this indicative of something (They claim they wanted another colour, and it is a personal colour as well!)

This, especially round the rear arches and sills. Friend of mine had a couple, both eventually failed the MOT. Even the officially imported UK cars were not well protected from the factory.

Anyway you can protect it if you buy it? These people have had it garaged for most of its life. (it's done 5000km a year on average through its life)

Yeah keep it in a garage :p

You can underseal cars, it's a really thick tar like paint which you can get from the likes of halfords. It's a pretty nasty job to do yourself but a garage can do it for you and it's not very expensive to get done.

Thanks I'll look into it!

Daihatsu Mira/Cuore Avanzato or Classic Turbo :)

Never heard of them. Off to Google I go!

I'd just put up with the tax or move countries. :p
Driving something with less than a thousand cc (assuming it's not got a motorbike engine or a T3 fitted) is going to suck :(

I'm driving a 1.8 at the moment. Its grand and all, but the reality is that I'm 1.5 miles away from work at the moment, a car is a distinct luxury. I'll be using it for the odd 300km (600km round trip) journey here and there so only need something that will sit around and not cost me a fortune to run. :)

How about a more modern 1.2 Fiesta? I can't remember the last time I saw a cappucino. Admittedly they're pretty rare anyway but you still see ancient fiestas knocking around regularly.
