Hobbies/Interests away from the PC

I just went on my first trip to a shooting club today, was happily shooting my air pistol and talking to the chaps on the range and one of them even let me have some shots with his 12gauge. Shooting a 12 gauge in a 120m long railway tunnel converted into a range is epic in its own right, such a roar and echo from the shotgun in the tunnel..... it gave me a semi!

I intend to get back into air rifle shooting hopefully with the aim of getting some permissions to shoot rabbits and pigeons. Long game i want to get my FAC and/or shotgun licence and start shooting properly

Dogging will give you the chance to meet new people and get you out of the house for a while.
 
Model making is good, I very much enjoy it. Not too expensive to start with your basic Airfix/revell/tamiya stuff. More expensive if you are wood modelling ships and things, but oh so worth it.

I was also going to say fish keeping, but I suppose that's not an everyday thing.

Instrument is a very good one. Cheap to start and gets more engrossing as your talent grows.
 
Sun bathing?
Coffee shop "touring"?

But these may involve some physical exercise to reach the venue, unless you have some personal slaves to carry you. ;) :p
 
Picked up a couple of hobbies in adulthood:

- fairgrounds/themeparks. Yes it does involve some walking / trains, but it gets you out of the house. From an engineer's point of view, I am interested in how the machines work, plus ofc the thrills and adrenaline while on-ride.

- DMX 512. This is the protocol for disco lights seen in nightclubs and in the theatre. Start with the DMX desk, standard 19" rack-mountable job, and the lights daisy chain off that in a series circuit. You'll need to understand binary / logic gates, but I don't think that will be a problem with the users of a computing forum :-)

A basic good start one is only about £35

Something like juggling? Personally I can spin poi through both self teaching and meeting random people in a local park for about a year a couple of times a week (that was a few years back) like this but im not as good -


I know you said you do enough exercise but I started indoor climbing about 4 months ago, going about 3 times a week and am pretty good now. I used to always go to the gym but now generally climb and swim every morning. Gym floor I go about once a week

Although it does require PC or console, get Rocksmith and learn the guitar ... or learn the drums even though its physical but being in top shape helps.

There are other hobbies such as plastic scale models (Tamiya cars, Arifix planes, etc) or RC cars that run nitro.

Here's another alternative .... switch out some of your gym days for yoga ... going everyday to the gym is a bit boring ;)
 
With regards to photography - Maybe pick up something analog and go from there? I picked up a couple of old Polaroids a couple of years back at a flea market. I grabbed a box of film online, and just starting shooting things I liked the look of, and started to enjoy photography from there - definitely wasn't an expensive start.

The second Polaroid, I completely dismantled, gave it a complete overhaul then put it back together to start using - so I become more interested in restoring analog devices from here. Now I just buy things to take them apart, figure out how they work, and restore them just for fun. Currently I'm working on an old 1960's Packard Bell record player cabinet - I took the whole thing apart, completely rewired it, and now I'm going to tackle the cabinet itself! No previous woodworking knowledge, but learning as I go! Killing two birds with one stone.
 
Model making, astronomy and photography are ones that will keep you going for life. You might also want to try building some electronics projects.
 
I do a number of things, aside from drinking and playing about with pcs.

I brew, make cheese and cook, restore and fix cars, rennovate houses, generally bugger about building stuff out of scrap, play multiple instruments, listen to music, read.

Hobbies are about how much time you make for yourself and what you're interested in, I hate sitting in front of the tv of an evening so if I'm not out with friends I'll be doing something to fill my time.
 
Do you drive mate? And if so are you interested in cars? I find tinkering on your car out on the drive or working on something car related in the garage is really relaxing.
 
Photography, fiddling with the car (if I had more time/money/experience I would do this an awful lot more than I do), listening to music, going for walks.
