What happened to VapoChill and compressor technology?

If you remember the old Vapochill cases from early 2000's it was basically a freezer compressor inside a pretty stylish case for the time. I thought it was a novel solution for the time albeit expensive, but I would have thought by now the technology would have advanced more to be quieter/smaller/cheaper, where do we stand now?

You can get a Little Devil but again it's very expensive.
I believe unless you're benching (really benching) there is no need for these.
Then if you really want the max you will be doing LN2, cascades etc

I think the heat output became too large once CPU technology moved to multiple cores for the single stage vapochill/Mach 2 phase coolers.

I run phase change 24/7... It's still very much alive, you just have to know where to look.... Some of my systems..

I think I'm one of the very few people in the UK that still actually uses these :(

Got a brand spanking new Lian Li dress up kit for a Mach 2 GT in the loft, very very rare thing it is!!

Are they expensive to run? It seems inefficient to me but to be fair I know very little about them.

They use more power then water cooling and such but they're also not as bad as people think they are... Mine cost around 12p for every 3 hours they're on.

Costs me £10-15 a month extra in electricity which is nothing.

I used to have a Mach II or two back in the days of the P4 Prescott days, and was one of the first in the UK to import a Baker head to replace the OEM Mach II head.
Not that I ever saw that unit though, I gave the head to Fatty who used to frequent the Extreme Prometeia forums who I believe built an R507 monster with it!
