The VW Corrado VR6 is the best VW ever made.

I should point out that what I mean is that the PD130 Polo will be noticeably quicker than the GTI after it has been re-mapped.

Obviously if you remap neither or remap both, the GTI would be quicker (they map to 210 I believe, whereas the PD130 will do around 170)

I really don't see what is so hate-able about a 6N2 1.4 16V. They are a fine little car. Nothing stupendous, but they are fine. A pretty solid little car.

If you had said a 1.0 6N I might have understood.

You are comparing a re-mapped car to a non re-mapped car. This makes no sense.

Of course the diesel will get better fuel economy.

But it sounds atrocious, revs to 4K and shakes your bones apart.

Whereas the GTi wouldn't.

I know which one I would pick.

I know I am! For the love of god will somebody please understand meeeeee! :p

I'm just saying that with a £350 map it will be an economical little car which will get over 65MPG on a run (quoted is something like 68MPG extra-urban pre-remap), but has the power available to outstrip the likes of a stock GTI should you wish to use it. That is why I like them. :)

It doesn't sound as good as the GTI obviously, no, but as far as diesels go it certainly isn't the worst. And having test driven one I can say that it won't shake your bones apart, it felt, if anything, smoother than my Polo, which is the 1.2 petrol.

You can also get the GT PD130 in 9N form rather than 9N3, with the circular headlamps. I like that version better. :)

I do like the GTI, but I'm just trying to defend my love of the GT PD130. :p

yeah I get your point completly.

But most people don't go into a car purchase with "what will it get with a re-map" in mind.

And if they did, they would be thinking about the mapping the GTi too :p

I get your point as well. :)

I was just using the "it will be faster than a GTI" statement to highlight how surprisingly nippy a re-map would make it.

Stock vs. stock the GTI has a 0 - 100km/h time of 8.2 seconds, and the PD130 is 9.2 seconds. Take that 130HP up to 165-180HP and the 229lb/ft of torque up to 269-284lb/ft, and you have yourself a GTI beater. (until you get to a set of bends and the heavy diesel lump pulls you off the road into a ditch) :p

G60 was better than VR6 imo, less weight in the engine made it handle better and not far off the straight line pace of the VR. Lovely noise off the 2.9 VR engine though.

Our Corrado's always get good attention at race meets and always nice to see them beating Escort Cosworth's, Impreza's etc.

But it is not a 50hp difference, it is a 20hp difference.
There is not much difference at all between my 160 bhp 1.8t FSI s-tronic a3 and my previous 140 tdi s-tronic A3 in terms of speed and acceleration. There is a difference on motorways, I have to drop a gear or two to overtake whereas the 140 tdi would do it in 6th. Half as much lb/ft will do that.

So, sorry, but you are wrong.

You have just demonstrated....precisely my point. So sorry, no I'm not wrong

I understood what you were trying to say btw, but with power being equal I feel it would be a very odd decision to choose the dagdag and think it was some sort of hero...that's all I was ever really trying to get at.

I only ever drove one G60, had the pulley done I think....but I didn't really like the whine it made, not sure if it was that specific car but it took over the whole experience. Much louder than any other supercharged car I've driven. Couldn't drive it hard enough to notice the handling difference between it and the Vr6 but my 2 litre certainly moved around better than the 2.8 - then again it had rock hard coilovers fitted by the previous owner

Never driven a G60 and only ever seen one once that I know of but I seem to recall it having more of a higher pitched jet engine whine rather than the throatier noise of the VR6.

Lupo GTi. Silver... 6 speed rather than 5 speed.

Best VW made to date. Mod, please lock this thread up.

Lupo's are useless though. You can't even fit the spoils of a grocery trip to Tesco in the boot.

And their tininess makes them look a bit silly as well. :p

Went to look at a Lupo 1.4 Sport 100 as my first car, took it for a drive, it was great fun. Opened the boot, walked away. :p

Who said they were built to carry shopping. That car was made for fun.

The thing was the last of the real small hot hatches. It was like a go kart!

Point out another car like it.... Probably bmw's mk1 mini

Would rather have a Polo GTI. Looks less silly, goes just as well, and is more practical. :)

But having driven the Lupo 1.4 Sport I do see where you are coming from.
