Hi all need some advice.

Last year we paid for a TV license out right as I sold my laptop to cover it.

Well this year we was paying XX amount a month to try and show we where trying to pay for the license I understand that its meant to be paid in full for the whole year but we have been struggling.

Any way we got a letter through a week ago refunding what we had paid for this year and the letter says

"the attached letter is a refund of payments due to you as a tv licensing savings card has been cancelled.

Because you failed to complete full payment ETC ETC"

So long story short we begged and borrowed and paid for it in full 4 days ago :)

Well this morning we got a letter through refunding the full amount of £145.50

with the same letter and wording

"the attached letter is a refund of payments due to you as a tv licensing savings card has been cancelled.

Because you failed to complete full payment ETC ETC"

threatening our property will be subject to an enforcement officer?

Any ideas or do they just want to take us to court?.

:(

I'm not sure I understand. You paid for your TV license and they've refunded it?

If so just stick the money aside in case they ever ask for it again. They can't exactly take you to court over something you paid, and then they refunded.

ugh TV license, I dont understand how you can be struggling, my license is like £12 a month. Keep the letters, say you have paid it and had it refused even though you have given the full amount. That way if it goes to court, you can use that in defense so you can try and avoid a 25 year criminal record -_- ( its ridiculous that you get a criminal record for this TBH) However to be 100% safe, just dont watch TV, until you can get you r license paid, maybe you can complain to them and get this sorted

This, however I am sure they may try to take you to court anyway if they catch you watching TV

If you're that worried phone them and sort it, if you're not then just ignore it and don't let them in when they come knocking.

Yeah basically

this years license was due but we could not afford to pay it out right so we paid as much as we could each week.

They refunded that and said

"the attached letter is a refund of payments due to you as a tv licensing savings card has been cancelled.

Because you failed to complete full payment ETC ETC"

so we borrowed money to pay it in full for this year even though its half way through the year.

any way we managed to pay it in full a few days ago and now we got a letter this morning refunding the full £145.50 with the same letter

"the attached letter is a refund of payments due to you as a tv licensing savings card has been cancelled.

Because you failed to complete full payment ETC ETC"

and threatening to send some one out to us? :(

Phone em mate lol

Remember when you setup a DD you actually pay for the first year within I think 6month, then the prices drop and you start paying the next years.

Sounds like a clerical error, and if you've got the money to pay call them to see if you can get an explanation as to what happened. Regardless if you do just pay in full over the phone.

I've never been in the situation where I couldn't pay my TV Licencing but the way I managed to get my savings under control was to create separate savings accounts for each yearly expense.

I.e. I had accounts for "TV licence", "Car Tax", "Car Insurance". (TV licence I actually paid monthly as well but Car Insurance benefits from paying yearly)

I then simply worked out what I needed to save each year and divided by 12 to get what I needed to put away each month. A standing order to these accounts on the 1st of each month meant the money was never in my current account to spend.

If you get paid weekly or fortnight you just need to set up those standing orders to be the day after you get paid and find out how much you need to pay each week to get the right amount at the end of the year when it's due.

I also had some other accounts that I set aside money for more fluid payments:

I.e. "Fuel", "Food Shopping", "Nights out"

While the first accounts I KNEW I couldn't touch these other accounts could be dipped into knowing what the consequence would be. E.g. I need to drive down south then I know I can't take money from my TV Licence, Car Tax or Car Insurance accounts but I know I CAN take money from my "nights out" account.

It's not going to work for everyone, if you're really having trouble finding the £12 a month for your TV licence then I'd hate to be in your position, but it might be a good way to get you back on track.

Like I said last year we paid it in full as I sold my laptop to cover it.

We had paid a little towards this years license last year and most of it this year which off course is not how they want it done they want it paid in full for when the old on runs out :(.

As some may know I lost my job due to illness and have zero income spend a lot of my time at hospital etc etc I dont need the stress tbh

then dont bother twith it and disconnect/ sell your TV and only use it for PC/XBOX/ Playstation etc
People Pay :confused::confused::confused:

yeah! I don't want 25 year criminal record !!!

Set up a direct debit then? Zero stress once it's set up.

Or, ditch the arial and stop watching live TV. If you only watch on demand services and such like, you don't need a TV license.

If you have 0 income mate I'd keep the money and fill in the "we do not have a TV" form on their website. As long of course as you dont actually watch live TV as it is being broadcast or use equipment to record it live.

Not saw your other threads but have you applied for any kind of benefits?

A good idea would be to talk to the people who sent you the letter using the telephone number at the top of the letter and asking them about the content of the letter they sent you, being especially mindful to ask them if you do or do not owe them any money and should you or should you not expect any refunds.

Come on, man. Get it together.

e: it's been a while (two weeks) since we had the last 'DO I NEED A TV LICENCE@@!' thread so hopefully this thread can morph into that wrongness.

I have applied for ESA but want to work I lost my job of 15 or so years basically they took a dump on me and left it at that :(.

umm well I may wait for this cheque to clear and then pay it by my bank card we paid it using the savings card the other day maybe the card was cancelled and invalid hence why they have refunded it but that seems silly?

It's almost certainly that you paid it on a cancelled card.
Just set it up as DD, or look into not using live TV. Then you don't need to pay for a license. The money you save from the license can go towards Netflix and nowtv.

I want to do this but have you ever tried convincing a woman that we dont need "normal" tv :-/
