Right, OCUK, you'll be pleased to hear I think a Mondeo might be the right car for me, even if it is a bit dull.

This one seems to tick the boxes, with Cruise, Camblet done at 63k in 2012, FSH, petrol.

EDIT:
Alternate option is MkII Focus for £3.5k, such as:

Thoughts on this one?

Never realised they were so cheap. Nice sized boot on the Mondeo. Comfey to sit in all day too

Cambelt changed? That year/engine will have a timing chain iirc

Yeah, it'll be a duratec he which is chain driven. I had the service manager at Ford say "your car has 140k on it, has the cambelt been done?" about my 2.0 mk3 Mondeo at MOT time, I had to point out it was chain driven. In his defence though he was recently from Peugeot and so used to more belt driven engines.

If anything it might even be a bit overpriced (difficult to put a hard and fast value onto a Mondeo of that age, plus it's worth so little that any variance is a relatively large percentage shift). Just moved on a 1.8 lx 2006 with about 90k for £1100, it was what I would describe as an "ok" example in terms of history and overall bodywork though.

Don't think I would dismiss that purely on the fact a trader doesn't know it's chain not belt driven - potentially worth going and looking through the history and getting a feel for the car

Cheers, I spoke the the seller, he wasn't particularly encouraging. I've spent the past day deciding on cars a bit more, and I might start looking for a decent £3k-£4k MkII like my original plan.

EDIT: I meant MkII Focus, not Mondeo.

Those fuel economy figures are a bit ambitious too. The model & trim of car is down the right path though :)

The average isn't that far off, mine indicates 34 mpg average across a tank of town and B road driving.

I gave 2k for my Ghia X 2 years ago with 60k on it from a ford main dealer, they even gave it a major service and resprayed BOTH bumpers before they let it go the example in the advert I would say is overpriced.

Why would you spend £3-4k on a Mk2? Even an ST200 isnt worth that.

Apologies, I meant MkII Focus. I think I'd rather the Focus over the Mondeo, not only personal preference, but the other half would be more comfortable with the hatchback too.

The original plan was a Focus, but I was looking at MkI examples and they were all a bit ratty, so I started to check out other cars, and kinda got distracted by all the choice/wanting something nicer/faster.

Thinking of checking out this one:

The garage has quite a few of them (Foci?) in stock, so will see what they're all like.

At least pick a nice colour, not something that will send anyone into rock bottom depression every time they look at it.

Test drive both cars and u will see the mondeo is better built and a far more quality drive. My 2004 ST220 is miles ahead of my previous focus's. The focus u linked to is way over priced also I have just sold my 2006 focus zetec with leather interior had done 70k for £2600 and that was in black which is a colour everyone wants unlike that awful green.
Grey looks great in the mk2 focus other than that it's got to be black as nothing else touches it wen it's clean. ;)
