Windows 9 is actually what Microsoft wants to sell you

Microsoft will reportedly announce Windows 9 this fall, Russian hacker group WZor said on a forum last week, following the launch of Windows 8.1 Update 2, which will be the last major update Windows 8 will receive. Windows 8.1 Update 2 is expected to be released by mid-August, and while the OS will get subsequent updates, no new features will be added to Windows 8.1. Instead, Microsoft will focus on its next major product it wants to sell buyers, which is Windows 9.

More HERE.

it would seem that despite the overall progress made with win 8 the public and more importantly businesses will not adopt it as M$ intended due to its UI flaws for keyboard and mouse users.

Therefore rather like Windows ME M$ would rather go to Windows 9 and sweep Windows 8 under the carpet.

I can see what they are doing and as long as they don't drag their heels too much in the release of Windows 9 it will probably work. The danger for M$ is if they release another OS that the world at large considers to be a dud. The previous Vista cockup gave Windows XP an extraordinary lease of life that M$ could have done without and now they find themselves in the same boat with Windows 7.

only time will tall.

Haven't they said support for windows 7 users ends at the end of 2014?

^Just mainstream updates, security updates will still follow.

My whole entire office is using Windows 8.1 and all our servers are 2012, besides one.

I think they have done a cracking job with Windows 8 and i'll be excited to see what 9 is like.

Lol, o's are released every 3 years. It's not sweeping anything under the carpet, it's just time for the new o's to be released. The exception was xp. Other than that MS always plan a new OS every 3years.
Win8 was never going to be for business, due to business only just moving to win7, it's expensive and takes years for corporations to migrate. However win8 has paved the way for the new OS features.

You only have to look at how public reception has changed to win 8 over the years.

From uninformed hatred to somewhere between informed indifference and a good measure of dislike?

+1

I've said before in posts that we have moved 90% to Win8.1 and as long as you only give the users what they meed and lock the desktop/metro down its rock solid. We also run the majority of our servers on 2012 R" and again solid.

but M$ have taken so much crap over Win8 they will be glad to see the back of it. I only hope that all those Surface tablets get an upgrade path and don't just get left behind.

Or you know liked, look at current win8 threads and the amount of people who changed their minds, look at steam stats etc.
Win8 will be like vista it's a big change. Vista broke drivers, in8 broke peoples minds. Not because it's hard people simply don't like change, three years latter and people start getting used to it, app stores grown etc. Now time to release another, which people will suddenly like, as people don't like changing their mind. Very much like vista to win7, once drivers where released or you upgraded components, vista was a good OS. It's third party companies that broke it.

definitely agree with the drives. Vista changed the driver model and OEM's didnt change with it quickly enough. It would have helped though if Vista wouldn't accept those drivers rather than installing them and the crashing,

as for 8 the more keyboard and mouse friendly they make it the more people will use it. the initial release that assume we would all move to touch screens was a seriously misguided one. didn't the head of development for desktop walk the walk straight after release?

Windows 95 - Breakthrough
Windows 98 - Hmmmm
Windows 98SE - Good too late

I fully agree with the point about Vista with the addition of some slight UI and various other tweaks that Microsoft made to turn Vista into 7.

I only somewhat agree with regards to Windows 8 however. Public opinion is still against Windows 8, the only place where I generally read/hear support for Windows 8 is here, on OCUK. Normally I have to defend it. Even if the people that I talk to are ALL in the minority, Microsoft have changed Windows 8 quite a lot between launch as how it is now, as 8.11 (which surely would only happen if the people I speak to are in the majority). Relatively small tweaks, but still, it has been tweaked. Add that to those who install Windows 8, then install a third party start menu...

With the added rumours/news that they are planning to bring back the Start menu (albeit tweaked) in Windows 9 it's basicly going to be a change-back to being more like Windows 7, with tweaks.

Basically, I don't think this move from Windows 8 to 9 will be quite the same as Vista to 7 was...

Hoping this is the new OS i can get on with, really hate 8.1.

You will always get a few that don't with every new OS ,personally it's been a very long time since I hated an OS,last one was WinME(yes many decades ago) due to being absolutely no improvements over Win98SE and ME was also buggy.

Win9 I expect to continue to refine some things from Win8.1 and also some new things that they wanted to see in Win8/8.1 etc..

I'll be getting it regardless of UI due to being a gamer and DX12 is always a plus for any gamer down the road.

Defaulting to metro apps on a desktop OS was a very bad move. It just goes to show how out of touch they were.

well at least they fixed it in the end I suppose. its funny though really that all we had to do was click "Desktop" and problem over. just a little issue that caused so much hatred. Still as you say it should never have happened. lets hope the guy knows better and actually has a mouse and keyboard.

Yup, absolutely ****ing awful it was. They've refined it out a bit thank God so it's actually *usable* by the vast majority. Totally tainted now though.

If Win9 takes the best of both Win7 and 8 then It should be rocking :)

Steam stats just say that new PCs come with Windows 8 invariably.
