Architecture Student, Budget Build??

Hi guys, I'm an architecture student that needs help figuring out a new system to buy on a budget.

Budget Range: Max £600 including VAT / Shipping (ideally £400-500)
System Usage: My work flow typically involves simultaneously using the Adobe Suite along with 2D Drafting and 3D Modelling software before using Rendering Plug-Ins to produce final visuals (while also streaming films on a second monitor) - it's worth noting that my renders are often the more basic 'clay' renders that are then stylized in photoshop, rather than the photo-realistic versions you may be thinking of
Specific Software: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, SketchUp, Rhino, 3DSmax, AutoCAD, MentalRay Renderer and Vray Renderer
Existing monitor resolution: 1440x900, but in the future may upgrade
Do you need to buy OS: Ideally yes, but not a necessity.
Location: London, UK
Overclocking: I'm not a gamer, so would I notice the difference?
SLI or Crossfire: I'm not a gamer, so would I notice the difference?

Below are 2 options that I have been suggested on a separate forum, but both are just too expensive. Also, both users totally disagree with the other users choice of components, which is making the decision process even more difficult!
** Do not post competitor names or links, thank you **
*Will update links tonight - for the time being see RogerMesensless post below for an idea of the suggested system*

Either way, is there any way a similar/cheaper/more suitable build can be achieved? I understand that this may mean getting cheaper 'future proof' parts now with the intent of upgrading them at a later date - so long as the system I do get will not crash/overheat in the early hours of the morning.

Thanks in advance!

Shaved a bit of money off. Also you might want to remove those PCPart links as they contain links to competitors.

What programs do you use the most? IIRC, Photoshop works better with AMD (OpenCL) and AutoCad likes CUDA. I've included the 270 for now as it's a little cheaper than the 750ti.

E: Anyone know stuff about Xeon's?

Alternatively, for more cores, you could go with an older Z77/H77 board and a Xeon E3-1230V2 (if you can get hold of one as I believe they are end of life). Should be a little cheaper too.

If your not gaming on it, that budget should net you a pretty good system mate. I see 'RogerMesenseless' has recommended a system although it's a little over budget. Do you have a current system and if so are you planning on replacing it with this new build? If so what's the spec of your current system as there may well be some components that can be used on the new one.

This would be a nice money saver. Especially if you can scavenge a copy of windows or a couple of Hard Drives.

RoferMesenseless, my most used programs this year have been sketchup/rhino and photoshop/illustrator/autocad. It could be next year I have more focus on visualisations though so it could extend to a more heavy use of vray... but again I render out clay versions rather than realistic textures.

DJ Bacho, my current system is a i3-330m laptop, so I assume I cannot reuse any of those components in a new computer build? like the 500gb HD, GeForce-330m graphics card, wifi card or external 500gb HD?

DJ Bucho / Luke Bowman, I do no gaming whatsoever so that's why I hoped I could get a pretty decent i5 system within my price range as my priority is more on the simultaneous use of drafting/modelling/adobe programs rather than continuous heavy gameplay?

Scotsdragon, I have embaressingly never heard of Dreamspark, that's perfect though! My OS is at least sorted :) thanks a lot!

Apologies for all the questions!

Right, it sounds like you should go for the 750Ti. Shivy011's build is on point (It's similar to mine but there's a few changes so you can get a bigger cooler for the same price). If you can get a free OS then I think it's not worth tearing the HDD out of your laptop so you can still use it as a portable machine - always good to have a secondary PC!

Get a new HDD, laptop HDDs aren't as fast and things could get messy. My spec includes a new one - as Roger said, keep the laptop as a spare/portable PC :D
