2014 Cabinet Reshuffle - William Hague gone

Don't forget what Churchill said about women in politics:

"The women's suffrage movement is only the small edge of the wedge, if we allow women to vote it will mean the loss of social structure and the rise of every liberal cause under the sun. Women are well represented by their fathers, brothers, and husbands."
- Winston Churchill

Could not have been more right. What a wise man.

Now labour have 40% women and look at the state of the country. lol

Yeah lets chain the whores in the bedroom and kitchen.

Whilst I am not anti women in politics/business I do believe in the best person for the job no matter what their gender, race or religious beliefs. Only time will tell, assuming there is enough time for this cabinet, if these women are the best for the jobs.

Saying that could Nicky Moragn, if she had been promoted to Underboss here they'd be a lot of warrented who?'s, do a worse job that Gove?

I'm worried that this is just a bit of "positive discrimination" to win votes rather than necessarily putting the right people in the right roles...

However, I'm not sad about Gove and Hague stepping down - but I fear this is just political gamesmanship rather than anything meaningful... however, we shall see.

This. What proportion of the Labour party are women? What proportion of Labour MPs are women and what proportion of the shadow cabinet are women? The same question will need to be asked when we find out the makeup of the new government cabinet.

If they are grossly out of proportion then there is probably sexism going on....

Women are too emotional to be in politics. They are also not fit too vote as winston predicted the women vote is easily swayed and a large influence that can be easily swayed plays in to the hands of the political parties. Thus we have most of the people voting on emotion and appearance over practical considerations. I bet if a celebrity like one of these xfactor girls or men ran for prime minister she/he would win soley due to the women vote.

That's a little unfair, I've met many women who are just as ballsy, cold and calculating as men can be. Thatcher for example was a fantastic leader (until she went OTT).

It's about balance - however, above it all, it's about having the right person in the right job. Sometimes a woman can be better than a man, and in another instance it is the other way around. It depends on their skills - also sometimes having a female touch isn't a bad thing. Heck, Angela Merkel is a fantastic leader and has kept Germany's head above water during the recession and has proven to help being decisive in some of the decisions that the G8 summits have had to deal with.

I think your view about women voting and basing every decision emotionally is a little unfair, and somewhat backward. Do you actually know women at all?

I think voting rights should be changed back to what it was when land owners voted and we should also remove the voting rights from state employees to prevent a conflict of interest. We need people voting practically and thinking long term not for their own self interest and the short term.

... as foreign secretary.

Hague will stand down as an MP at the next General Election, then will get on the charity gravy train. The other big casualty is Ken Clarke however this wasn't really news. Lots of other ministers you've never heard of are also out and consigned to the back benches.

Defence Secretary Philip Hammond is expected to replace Hague as Foreign Secretary, Dr Liam Fox is tipped to return, and lots of lady ministers will be appointed to be lovely and "connect with female voters" for the last year of parliament before they presumably will be replaced by white, middle-aged, millionaire men again.

Hypocrite Hague is no great loss. While making threats against some countries in the middle east for not including democracy he ignored others doing exactly the same thing. The best you could get out of him was vague "they should take account of their people" spin. Helped bring peace and democracy to Libya with their regime change which also spread this same effect into Libya's southern neighbours. More worrying would be the return of Fox, the man accused of letting outsiders see secret Govt. papers.

The rest is window dressing to try to appeal to female voters before the election.

Yeah, land owners never vote in thier own interest, do they?

Wow - drop out of time machine from the Victorian era did we?

Now if only they'd get rid of IDS, I'd be happy.

Unfortunatley I can't see IDS going any where any time soon, even tho he & his dept lie thru their collective teeth, he's far too useful as a distraction to be kicked into touch atm.

As someone who works in a school, with a wife who is a teacher, we couldn't be happier Gove is gone, the despicable little man. Good riddance.

Hear hear!

That man was vile. Everything about him down to his very character made me shudder.

Didn't like him but I hated his predecessors in Labour more who introduced so much paperwork my mum who used to Teach in schools(Now a private Tutor) was working her usual school hours plus up until about 2am(Unpaid as it was out of hours I might add) in the evening just to get her work done. Labour ***ed things up more than any one else.

I heard a brief interview with the BBC's politics correspondent this morning on the radio.

This resignation has been in the pipeline for some time, apparently, and he has not been pushed.

I have always like him, he just makes me smile for some reason! (not a good reason to like a politician, but there it is). I am not sure on what he has been up to as foreign secretary, but I would imagine he would have been told to tow the party line.

But the increadibly shallow cull prior to the general election is so transparrent as to be laughable and is one of the reasons I despise party politics these days.

I really hope the public are not shallow enough to fall for it.

And yet none of his policies are going to reversed by either this government or the next...

Quite a bit of what Gove has done as been necessary, but painful. The pace of change is the real issue but change was most certainly needed (and even more is needed truth be told).

I thought Labour were committed to reversing his policy of free schools being able to use unqualified teachers?
