Ford Mondeo - Sub £2k

I'd be looking at an Mk3, but want something nearby just in case something goes wrong. I know there's plenty out there, but it's finding one that's nearby from a reputable garage, rather than some cowboys.

mark 3's are peanuts
1K seems to get you a decent low mileage one for its age, good engine and spec too

Wouldn't buy either

Lx is a crap trim level and the 1.8 not really worth it.

Aim for a Ghia or similar trim level and the 2 litre petrol engine. A 2004 Lx isn't worth bothering with for £1750. Must be able to find a 2 litre car with reasonable trim for £1500

Cheers, mate, appreciate the suggestions. I'll keep looking.

What's so bad about the LX trim level? What else do the other levels include?

Is the Auto significantly worse on the MPGz than the Manual?

Should I worry about buying a car over 100k? I know they don't magically fall apart at that mileage, I've just never bought one with such high miles.

12,000-15,000 miles a year.

That's why I was looking at the 1.8, as it'd be a more economical engine?

I am sure other people will disagree. But having owned multiple Fords, I never found the petrol engines to be economical at all.

I understand that petrol is cheaper and have less potential big bills, I just found them terrible for fuel economy, but quite reliable.

I have not tried many petrol alternatives from other manufacturers, so it may just be normal.

ok, in that case, if your doing motorway miles mostly, I would suggest either a 2litre petrol engine or a 2 litre? diesel
if your on A-roads mostly I would suggest a 1.8 or 2 litre petrol if that makes sense or maybe a diesel too because your doing 15K a year
