Tour de France 2014 in UK

Suspected fractured knee cap, getting x-rayed now. Did amazingly well to get on and catch up as much as he did before the pain got to be too much.

Hearing some weird stories, someone said on Eurosport being injured that from the Roche crash, after pulling away the car may have tagged the Belkin car and it caused that bike to fall off and snap. I don't think the snapped bike was actually near Contador's crash just people could see a snapped bike on the car? People saying he hit something(big stone?) in the road causing crash.

I take it back saying he did really well to get back on and catch up almost 90 seconds.... he fractured his tibia then got back on the bike and went hard till the pain got to much. That is pretty bad ass.

Also saying he hit either something or just a bump in the road, but he was reaching for his pocket at the time and on a fast descent so really just a bunch of things adding together that meant he went down. It's still not exactly clear, I think from others they are saying he went off the road and probably smashed hard somewhere. a fracture of the tibia just below the knee probably requiring surgery but apparently not a bad fracture.

Nibali quoted as saying Contador shot past him going around 60kph, then went down and it was spectacular. Just was killing it on the descent, high speed, reaching for pocket and hits a bump or hole at exactly the wrong time. Assume he was trying to get to the front and was going to attack on the next climb maybe.

As you say elmuzzy, I presume it hurt like balls, you get that andrenalin/endorphin pain killing effect and the longer he went the more the pain was kicking in. Also possibly making the fracture worse as he was pushing so hard going uphill. Eventually the adrenalin effect wears off and pain lets you know it's not temporary and something is really very wrong.

EDIT:- bit surprised that no one caught footage of it. Was a narrow piece of road but you'd think a spectator would have been filming them coming down that hill at that speed.

Just caught up with todays action, shame to see Contador out, was looking forward to him and Nibali fighting it out in the mountains. Amazing that he continued as he did.

I've just got round to watching the tv highlights. What a day! Amazing climbing by Rodriguez, brilliant chase by Nibali, and great pacing by Tony Martin, even after yesterday! I'm sad to see Contador out.

Thanks Vonhelmet, that clears it's up.

Photo's of him crashed and off the bike - but frame wasn't snapped and photo's of a snapped frame after one of his 3 spare bikes tangled with belkin team car.

Since we all love to see the damage done in crashes. I've finally managed to get some pics of my bike after my crash 2 weeks ago.

What's the thoughts on the damage? LBS reckon with the force that has gone through the bars the frame will be a write due to it being carbon. What else do you guys think could be wrong with it?

Oh and my legs slowly getting getting less painful shame you can't replace/upgrade those :p

Might be worth posting this in the road cycling thread.

Word from Tinkoff Saxo is that Contador won't need surgery, but he is likely to miss la Vuelta. That could make it interesting if Froome recovers in time, and if Valverde and Rodriguez are up for it. I wouldn't be surprised to see Quintana selected, and he could really do well, given his climbing abilities.

Think Movistar plan was always for Quintana to focus on Giro and Vuelta if his form was still good, so could be good. Seems to suit Rodriguez more, think Froome will definitely go if he is fit, hopefully some of the others who missed out on TdF such as Kennaugh will get selected to support.

Such a crap excuse that, another great rider gone.

It#s not as if the Worlds crept up on him is it.

True, but I think the plan for Cancellara was always for him to get a win on stage 5, and then if possible push for the TT, but with Tony Martin in such good form, you can see why it wasn't worth killing himself for another week and a half in the mountains to get there.
