Best PC games of the last 5 years?

I agree with all of the games mentioNed in the thread, some truly stonking releases in past 5 years.
Standout title for me was Xcom enemy and Dark Souls1/2

My fave and I never thought in a million years I would get hooked on is League of Legends...Dat game! (it's kinda single player...it is ! )

Mass Effect 1, 2 & 3
Probably my best gaming experience

Skyrim
Mods galore to make it look stunning

Sleeping Dogs
Think GTA in Hong Kong. Whilst maybe not quite good as GTA games, it still holds up as a great game

Fallout New Vegas
Again mods galore to make it stunning.

Max Payne 3
Just as good as the original in my opinion.

Great to see so many mentions for Portal 2 :)

I'd put The Witcher before its sequel though. I hated the boss fights in 2, did the first one over and over until I'd gotten it, but when the second came along I just gave up, too many other non-annoying games to play.

Max Payne 3
Mass Effect 2 ( i liked ME1 more, but is more than 5 years old )
Hotline Miami ( incredible little game )
Deus Ex HR
CS GO.
Skyrim
Company of Heroes 2 ( yes, i don´t give a damn about russians depicted as murderers, it´s damn fun )
Tomb Raider
The Witcher 2
COD MW2
Metro

Games of roughly the past 5 years. That I have lost significant amounts of spare time too, with good character narrative + screen play:
SWTOR
Tomb Raider (2013)
Bioshock Infinity (Including DLC)
Max Payne (1-3)
Portal (1-2)
GTA 4

3 Recommended Games, not applicable to your criteria:
Kerbal Space Program.
Halo Franchise.
GTA 5.

For me:

Arma 2 & it's expansions
Mount & Blade Warband & Napoleonic Wars
Left 4 Dead 2
Planetside 2
Killing Floor
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
The Witcher 2
Portal 2
Total War: SHOGUN 2
Serious Sam 3: BFE

They have been the ones I've sunk the most time into or just really enjoyed all the way through. There's several other games that I can think of which I really like but then that's moving more towards cross platform games.

All of these are great single player games with an interesting story:

Deus Ex Human Revolution
Splinter Cell Blacklist
Portal 2
Mafia II

Witcher 2 had big control issues for me - as I need to change controls in all games in order to play, I believe it denied the ability to change them. I haven't installed it or played it since initially trying to change the controls, but I would hope by now they've patched it in...

XCom the original was awesome, scary, yet enthralling. I've got the latest but not played it yet...

I think with the witcher series it's advised to use a controller.

I too preferred the original Witcher. The sequel was more polished but not nearly as fun to play.

Action/shooters:
CS:GO
Skyrim
Far Cry 3
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare
Payday 2
Stalker: COP
Watchdogs (Multiplayer - not solo)

Adventure/story:
Kentucky Route Zero (not finished yet though)
The Stanley Parable
Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons
Gone Home
Jazz Punk

Strategy:
XCOM
Age of Wonders III

RPG:
Divinity: Original Sin
South Park: The Stick of Truth
Driftmoon

You've heard a lot of recommendations.

For me I ended up hating Sleeping Dogs due to the driving mechanics, drove me to not play the game

Xcom is very good and recommended

Mafia 2 for a good storyline and fun

Portal 1 and 2 is awesome, and cheap!

Listen to all the below too, 99% are right :D

I have to say Stalker its just one of them games that keep calling me back and with its great modding community its keeping the Zone alive.

This thread is great, because of all the Steam sales and Humble Bundles I keep seeing recommended games and realising I have them and haven't played them yet :D

I've had Brothers: A tale of two sons for awhile now, and though I'd played 30 minutes or so before, I actually completed it last night - partly due to this thread.

Had some one or two incredible 'moments' in it, so would recommend that quite highly.

Can't imagine it's easy to play without a controller pad though.
