I have 6 x BeQuiet Silent Wings 140mm they are nice and quiet but today (hot in London) the WD Blacks and Greens were getting way too hot for my liking, case was open and felt by chance, so i want to replace the 2 front fans in my FD Define XL with something that punches a wee bit more air, i know I could just buy something like the Noctua NF-A14 iPPC 3000 but i don't fancy a jet engine in me ears all day long, so i'm looking for a balance between airflow and noise and if poss in Black.

Also can someone explain what this PWN means, i'm sure it's something to do with monitoring the fans speed etc but I have no software installed to control them i just plug them into the Motherboard headers.

140mm fans should be nice and quite unless you have them spinning at the same revs as a jet engine. They'll move a good amount of air as well. Are your hard drives mounted in a caddy, as if might be worth seeing if you can trim down as much of the caddy as possible to increase the area of hard drive exposed to the fans cool air.

Thanks MTD I went for the 3000 rpm version as i have a fan controller on the front of the case, trouble is i had to buy elsewhere as OC had ran out of stock so sorry about that OC.

Thanks guys.

What fan controller you got that works with PWM fans ?

LOL None (I have found out today) plus on top of that they are 4 pin and i need 3 pin so they are going back but I have ordered the 3 pin 2000rpm version from OC, as for the ones i got today, one word for them "mad" they seemed to push more air then my 18 inch living room fan, yes they are loud very loud but if you need some air moving they are awesome.
My fan controller is built into the case and it runs at switchable 5, 7 &12v and will only power 3 fans but given i want these to cool the drives only it's fine for me.

Maybe I should pick one of those up for my HDD's then, got the stock fan that came with my Zalman Z9 and honestly the only reason it hasnt been changed yet is im not sure how to get the front fan out lol.
