Trackmania 2

Completely agree with you Gimpymoo. I've owned all TM games since the original and used to enjoy mixed games so one minute you were doing Stadium in the standard buggy then doing those supercars at high speed then the stupid Renault 5 thing etc. Great fun.

I've been playing TM2 Stadium on and off since release and only noticed that Valley is out. I'm a sucker for their games so am buying it now.

sequels are absolutely pointless, same games, they hardly look different from predecessors. Hence what's the point of going from originals to 2.

Wouldnt say that. They improved a lot of the tilesets etc and the game feels much more fluid then TM1.

I would say though that they ****ed up hard with the separate releases. It has seriously fragmented the community.

A bump to make people aware of the OcUK Group.

To join a group, do the following:

Login to your preferred TM2 title.
Choose "Profile" bottom left.
Under heading of "Groups" on the right, choose "Add".

Type the details as noted above and click subscribe.

Please remember that only "Official" times are posted to groups.

For those new to the series, "Official" times can only be posted once you have got "Gold" on that track in solo.

Once gold is achieved, you will be prompted to compete in an "Official" run after playing for 5 minutes. There is a countdown timer on the right hand side.

This stops spamming of laps and times are consistent and not just a fluke.

Thanks Gimpymoo - I have added myself to the group.

The Trackmania/maniaplanet thing is always horribly confusing (Nadeo's games would be so much more popular if they could just code a decent UI and actually communicate/explain how things work) but am I right in reading that the recent update to the demo they have released means that you now get the first 48 hrs totally free for all of Trackmania and Shootmania environments (Canyon, Valley and Stadium), and after that you can play for an hour a day for free too, with no restrictions during that hour?

If true, why hasn't this been plastered all over the place? Seems to good to be true.

Then again, I probably am misreading it (it's in Nadeo's usual Frenglish after all) and it's not that at all.

I'll add myself to the group tomorrow :)

Which TM2's do you lot play? I've been on Canyon since it was released but only just got Stadium & Valley, so can play all now (will the group show across all titles?)

Anyone who wants to hook up for a game or 2 please give me a shout, I do love these games :D

The Group will show across all titles.

So get posting some official times :)

I have to say, the Steam release at the moment is a bit fudged.

One is better to install the "demo" client.

http://maniaplanet.com/download

Allows switching between environments without starting each environment seperately.

The Trackmania II pack also allows to join multi environment servers.

I'll get some times up soon ;)

Did I read correctly that if you have all 3 titles installed via Steam then you can use select servers that run multi-environment tracks, like the old TMUF?

Not with the Steam version, no, not as far as I am aware.

You need the Trackmania 2 pack which can currently only be installed onto the standalone Maniaplanet client.

You get the TM2 pack from the store inside the game.

Didn't like Valley at all :( Installed Stadium again. Are the times you mention just on the standard tracks that come with the game?

I've not had enough time with Valley to fully decide yet, but so far it's a mixed bag for me, solo isn't that great but online I actually enjoyed playing on a busy server, but I'll give it some more welly before I decide? :)

Just seen your edit, IIRC the times are for official times only made on the solo tracks?

Yep just worked it out. I beat the medals in the first track in white and then set my official time and can see it within the standings of the group. I did the same for the next one but it won't let me set an official time for some reason. I've completed it several times beating at least Gold :/ Will try the next one..

edit: Quick search online suggests you can only do an official time every 5 mins

Yes, you need to have gold to post an official time.

After that, you get prompted to do an "official" run every 5 minutes if you wish.

It tries to ensure times are not fluked.

I've just got back in to trackmania but experiencing a slight stutter when playing online that's bugging me. It might happen once a map or sometimes might not happen for 5 games and then a 1 second pause. always seems to be when I am getting a good time :(

It only seems to be online, when I play it locally offline it is smooth as butter. Do you think it is just lag or something? I have tried it crossfire and single card with the same effect?

Cheers

Just a quick update to say I have solved the issue. It was the cache getting too big. I have put a limit of 600MB now and no more stuttering :)
