I suspect the answer is no...so i will either have to go down to a big store to get a dvd drive today or order a cheap one for delivery tuesday.....

ffs quite annoyed...wanted to build pc at weekend. :(

the board is an ASUS 79-K

Yes if you can find a IDE to SATA converter then they will work but if you gonna build a PC this weekend it might be a slight problem unless you have a PC shop close to you that might stock them, couldn't find one in OcUK shop but that might be down to getting to many hits.

Here is the one I been using myself for some time to a Plextor DVD IDE drive I have. Took it out yesterday due to got myself a BluRay player but the Plextor still working like a charm so might use it in a 2nd PC if I decided to build another one. =)

Don't trust IDE to SATA converters, I know of people who have used them like once and they have blown up - it's a mere like £12 for a new SATA drive

thanks for the replies but i just ran down to a certain electronics store and got a dvd drive for a £10. :D

okidokis, all sorted then ! *thumbs up*

will find out in about 10 minutes when i hit the on switch.....its a ****load of cables ive connected up.... but that cpu cooler was a bloody mare to get on...it beggars belief...it was so bad i think ive stuck it on the wrong way as it encroaches on 2 empty ram slot bays.

before i forget

i have 2 sets of 6 + 2 power connectors from psu to graphics card

1 set says pci express
1 set sets sli ready

the pin interface on my graphics card will actually take 6+2 (8) and 6 ......question is which ones??? i think the 8 pin set that says pci express yeah? and maybe only 6 pin of the sli ready one? (thus leaving 2 spare)

rightho... that was the last thing i had to do before switch on....

oh wait hrmm i only have a vga monitor...there is no vga slot on the graphics card....BUT there is a vga connector on the motherboard...hrmm weird...didnt think i had any onboard graphics there...ill give it a go....

hope it doesnt blow up on me

Yea i know :D i have one lying around the house somewhere. i havent switched the pc on.i was so tired...i will take some interior photos and post them...hopefully if there is anything obviously wrong someone will tell me.

some pics of interior...before i switch on.

One thing i was worried about...

the two connectors for the 2 case fans are 3 pin however the pin on the mobo for the 2 fans are 4 pin....i stuck em in anyway is that ok?

As you can see the Brocken Eco Cpu cooler impinges upon 2 RAM slots of the ASUS Z97-K board. I am pretty sure i could NOT position the cooler vertically to avoid this (the screw-ins and placement of holes on mobo dont align) So to anyone else thinking about getting this cooler and mobo combo.....i'd advise not to. :(

If something monumentally stupid has been done..do let me know now :D

Yeah i know i didnt use every single mobo screw-in slot but that was a mare to get done as well...the mobo screws with the case didnt fit so i had to improvise.

Things i need to do:

tieback cables as they are all over the place.
Stick sides and top back on.

Any ideas on what i can do for a solution to the dvd drive problem?

(problem is basically the holes on the case do not align correctly with the holes on the side of the dvd drive so i either dont screw it in = bit loose or i screw it in with a 1/3 of the dvd drive sticking out the front.)

Finally...it seems like to me the graphics card is almost (if not) touching the round ASUS Z97 chip..is this a problem?

ohh i forgot.. i have a fan controller i got with the Midgard II case

How do i connect this in ? :D

OR should i not bother as i think the Asus Z97-K board has fan control options anyway?

I'd suggest turning the cooler around, you have the RAM in single channel mode like that. It should be 2 in grey slots or 2 in black slots for dual channel.

The RAM is low profile so should fit under the fan.

And turn your SSD drive around too so the cables are going out the back to help cable management (which you really need lol)

I agree, you need to turn the cooler around so that you can at least install your RAM correctly, as you currently have it installed in single channel mode rather then dual channel. The Ram needs to be installed in either both the black or grey slots.

Hi. Do you mean turn it sideways or just move the fan to the other side of the hs?

If you mean turn it sideways...it is not possible to do this :(

i will see if i can move the RAM so i can get dual channel

Turn the whole cooler sideways so the heat is vented out the back and the RAM can fit.

There is no reason why it shouldn't mount vertically.

Ok ill do as you suggest...even though its gonnna be a mare to do....i was also sure the holes on the mobo didnt align with the backplate with the hs positioned vertically but i could be wrong. What will i use to clean the cpu and hs? Cloth and ?

ok moved the heatsink round...much easier this time. Which side of the heatsink should i put the fan? Should i have it directly facing the case fan side (so 2 fans opposite each other) or put it on the other side facing the ram slots?
