This is a topic which i am hugely opinionated on. Being someone who's played battlefield games since BF1942 it's a pretty important issue to me and i wanted to find out what you guys thought.

I must've been about 10 when I first played Battlefield. It was the weekend and my dad had just bought me the PC gamer magazine (yes i was a true nerd even at 10). These magazines always had little "demo discs" in and this particular one had the multiplayer demo for Battlefield 1942. Now as a child it was obviously very easy to keep me entertained. I will never forget the hours i spent on that demo, sometimes just on a empty local server flying the planes and driving the jeeps. It was an incredible experience and to me it was just amazing. A few months later i picked up the retail game and installed it on my PC. I was in love (first true love). The community was amazing and I just loved playing the 64 player conquest matches on huge maps like El Alamein etc.

As well as this the experience was immersive. Okay the graphics were nothing special. But the sounds were perfect. Nose diving a Japanese Zero or driving a Sherman tank felt incredible and this was all down to the great sounds and also the simplicity of the game. Which brings me onto my next point. Simplicity.

In Battlefield 1942 we couldn't even change our loadouts. You picked a class and got sent on your way. I LOVED THIS. Not only did it provide a generally equal playing field (no OP guns etc) it enforced a sense of realism. As if you'd all just been to boot camp and given these guns.

When I look at (and play) todays Battlefield games i really just get an overwhelming sense of disappointment at what it could've been. Battlefield 4 (in my opinion) is not really a battlefield game. It's an expanded version of the most generic shooters on the market.

It's lost the realism that was demonstrated in the early battlefield games. We see bright pink guns and red helicopters flying around which totally ruins the experience for me. It feels like being in a paintball match.

As a child i always dreamed about what future battlefield games would be like. I imagined we would be on 200 player servers by now with incredibly immersive graphics. The graphics have also gone downhill in my opinion. From Bad company 2 to battlefield 4 they seemed to just become boring. Combined with the overuse of effects and things like levolution its began to feel like a scripted attempt to constantly replicate the things which made Battlefield 1942 - 2142 amazing.

Features are being reintroduced as gimmicks. Things like carrier assault. In Battlefield 1942 we could drive the aircraft carriers around in conquest and they could be sunk.

I could go on for hours but I will leave this here. I would love to hear your opinions on the series. :)

EA need shutting down or a big kick at the top.
Releasing half finished games and then releasing DLC for them rather than actually fixing bugs is a big no no..

EA, here play this game.
Erm, it crashes, has loads of bugs in it and feels like a beta copy.
EA, yes, we know, things will be better after the enxt patch.
EA, here's your patch.
Erm, stuff still doesnt work, stuff you said that would be fixed in the patch.
EA, here, have some new maps and shiney weapons...

Really did you say the graphics weren't as good??? You need to turn your settings up or get a new card.now maybe there wasn't much between three and four but hell it was a step up from before. The lighting became immersive amd so did the ambience. Maybe you need the best rig to run them but still.
As for four it was actually performance based cpu and graphically coded better however it wasn't a difference in game play from three.
However I'm sick of all fps they all suck currently I love the world war two ones but they don't make them any more well decent ones

Peaked at 1942 with Desert Combat, was simple but effective.

I think Battlefield has gone down the wrong path. If I were to make battlefield id of gone for ARMA style maps just a tad smaller, more photo realistic graphics, simple weapon load outs which everyone has and perhaps limit to dumb fire missiles/ bombs.

Likewise I jumped into 1942 off a demo disc without any idea what I was about to get myself into and loaded into the middle of a pitch battle it was immense, never did buy the full game though due to getting into several other games about that time but did later buy BF2 off the strength of that.

Personally I like the ability to customise my loadout within the confines of different class types - allows me to put a personal touch on my experience and I do like achievements to unlock some content, etc. but they should be real achievements imo and not just a massive spam of random mostly pointless achievements for every day content like BF4.

BF4 also left me feeling massively underwhelmed they had the rendering and gameplay tech/features there to make something massive and just created one of the most buggy recreations of stock gameplay I've ever seen. I mean how do you make a game based around something that generic and have that many bugs in tried and tested features? won't be buying any games by dice, based on FB3 or produced by EA in a long time I think. (Last time I said that was 7 years until I touched them again and just got burnt again with BF4 basically).

BC2 is still great fun to play for a while, so much better than BF3.
I stayed at away from BF4 because of 3 not being fun and generally causing more annoyance.

The mp maps let dice down a bit though, they could have been so much better with a bit more thought and options for flanking instead of some of the horrible choke points there is, like Metro in BF3, terrible map.

They desperately need to make a game as enjoyable as BC2.

Battlefield 2 was probably the most solid out of all of them in my opinion. Although it did lack some of the sandbox features that we had in 1942 like the drivable ships etc. I guess they wouldn't have fitted in as well as they did in 1942.

A full remake of 1942 would be incredible. 1943 was absolutely brilliant (especially air superiority). They could implement things like naval warfare (between ships and planes) over the sea. Also could increase the player counts and just develop on the core battlefield values.

However we are now seeing Battlefield Hardline............... *Walks out*
