So after 3 very happy years of owning my BMW E92 335i Msport, it went off to a new owner down in Wales (after being up for sale for less than 24hrs, result!) and after lots of going around in circles about what to get next, I've decided to also sell up my old X3 and get an X6 to replace both cars.

I don't drive off road, so the lack of actual off road ability of the X6 is not an issue. It's on road abilities for large SUV / 4x4 are excellent and it has the bad weather and height / ground clearance I require to visit my mum up in the highlands so it'll do nicely :)

It's the xdrive40d model with the toys I wanted, spent a good while hunting to get the one I wanted.

First thoughts, overall very well built, haters going to hate and all that, but the X6 drives very well for such a large car, and it's no slouch with 306bhp and a 0-60 of 6.5s, but it's rolling acceleration, 30-70 etc is very impressive. MPG has also made me pretty happy, averaging high 40's on the way back from down south picking the car up (book average is 37.7 so town driving is going to be really poor mpg, but so is my X3, and so was the 335 in that respect)

Parking isn't too easy, it's so massive / wide, it'll take some practice to park perfectly with enough room for people to get in and out lol.

Some minor modifications will follow, black grills, my private plate, and a remap.

The old 335....

The X6....

I've never been a fan of the X6. Nice machine but just something about the look I don't really appreciate. The 335 on the other hand looks great. Hopefully I'll have one at some point.

I test drove the X5 with the same engine at the end of last year, it was very nice.

I say same engine, it said it was a 4.0d on it, knowing BMW it could have had a tuned blender powering it for all I know.

I like the aggressive styling of the X6. What sort of gains will you get from the remap?

370bhp / 700lbs torque I believe.

And to those that actually think it's 'hideous' and the like, each to their own, but no need to be rude about it :p if we all drove the exact same car it'd be boring out there! I like it and as long as you respect that it's my choice then fair play :)

I like the X6 but two kids and two dogs meant the non sloping boot (and extra two seats in the boot) of the X5 suited me better. Enjoy it.

I did consider the X5 - but I didn't need the extra space really, and this drove a little better and was a little bit more... different. lol. marmite comes to mind :)

oh dear I think you've made a mistake :o

See the last 4 words of my reply to skidder above :)

I'm really liking it, but I wouldn't force the liking of it on those that really don't like it. It is a great car though, very well put together and very capable at what I want it to do :) Of course there are loads of other cars I could have bought instead, but I wanted this one in this spec.

Really dislike these. If I had too id go x5.

But that's cars a lot are marmite hope you enjoy it

I was just typing up a reply about marmite and you must have posted this at the same time lol.

I agree though, there are plenty of cars out there I'd not touch, but I see them all the time, so folk must like them :) But thanks, I am enjoying it and I'll see how it is to live with over the coming months!

I traded my e92 335i for the X6 40d and never regretted it. Also got a re map and it made a huge difference, smoother (especially with the 8 speed box) more economy and went like stink.

Much better than the X5 as everyone has one of them and they are everywhere, because the X6 is fugly not many people have them. Only down side were the 20" wheels as the negative camber on the rear means the tyres do not last long and wear the inside very fast.

Enjoy the ride and enjoy the road presence.

Who will you be using to remap it?

To my knowledge there are zero remaps available - nobody has cracked it.

Btw, you mean 700 Nm not 700 lbs-ft ;)
