As promised OCUK to be the first with this launch information.

The revisions on this unit VS last generation are;

2 x GTX860 nVidia graphics (out performs GTX880 - so why pay more for less performance!)

3 x 128 SSD (previous model was 2 x SSD)

Additional heat pipe added to improve thermal cooling performance.

The chassis has also been strengthened - it didn't need it, but our RnD team wanted to improve it.

Design is absolutely stunning and media and customers absolutely adored this product at Computex.

Check it out - http://www.aorus.com/x7.aspx

Be First, don't miss out:-)

Its not a mistake,,,, as you will see from the revised product spec,(LT-000-AU) Aorus X7 V2 is being shipped with upgraded processor,,, NOW Intel Core i7-4860HQ ( 2.4 - 3.6GHZ)

No extra cost involved.

Just Aorus delivering the best :-)

Hmmm the 4860HQ on paper sounds much better than the 4710MQ, but is only marginally quicker when max turbo comes into play (and technically slower at the base clock).

Also how useful is the HD5200 IGP considering this laptop runs SLI (the last I read Optimus doesn't work with SLI unless the laptop has an additional MUX (ability to manually switch to the IGP)?

A free upgrade is always welcome but the 4810MQ would have been a much better fit.

meh was wondering when the new ones were coming in stock, shame i already sourced a 2nd hand m18x now:/

a friends got the previous version and it really is a good lappy.

Agree with his, not the ideal CPU choice imo as max speed rarely comes into play due to throttling etc.

I was looking at ordering one at the beginning of the month. I'm not particularly clued up with computers. Do you think my £ would be better spent elsewhere?

It's time to upgrade my laptop (My current one isn't worth mentioning) and I've decided to get a gaming lappy as my buddies to a fair bit of gaming. Although I need to have a laptop to keep mobile, I wanted a unit that could keep up at LAN parties.

I've already picked up Far Cry 3, Crysis 3 and the Mass Effect trilogy (I have been out of gaming for a while)

Does anyone think I can use my money more wisely? What would your choice be for £1,750?

On a side note, If I do opt for the X7, can anyone that's had hands-on recommend a cooling pad that will fit this machine well?

its for you to decide mate,
is it a good laptop? yes,
will it play thos games at highest settings? yes
can other lappys do a decent job on those games? yes

as for cooling my mate has his raised by 4 halfs of squash balls. and frequently cans of of compressed air to clear the vents

Look at this way. its all about bang for buck and perceived value.

You could get a gigabyte with GTX880m for £100 less. you could get many different GTX 870m models that would have you gaming quite happily for less money. (i have a G60 ghost pro with GTX 870m and it happily hits crysis 3 in very high.

But that said, if you want the best possible GPU in a light and thin package, then this is a very good product. SLI GTX 860m gives a similar performance (i think they claim better, but you will get some micro stuttering from the sli tech) to the GTX 880m. Its got 3 SSD's for super fast operation. And it weights the same as an alienware M14x with GTX 860m!! Yet with a 17" screen!

Its a very very good machine. but personally, i'm very happy with my 15.6" laptop! its nice and portable, only 1.9kg, and still does high quality gaming on the move!

its your money, its your choice! whatever you get (MSI, gigabyte, Aorus, alienware) you'll be happy! They're all performance machines!

Thanks for the advice gents. It is appreciated.

A couple more days till payday anyways so I'll have a little scout around the msi's (Is it wrong that I like the multicoloured keyboard so much?) but I'm leaning toward the X7.

Again, thanks for the input. As someone who usually buys a £300 piece of junk every 12 months (usually how long it takes to die) it's handy to have a forum where I can be reassured that I'm not making a big mistake.

All Gigabytes gaming laptops with 860M are Maxwell.

Ah, that is great news, cheers for that. This may be a contender then. I was looking at the x3 but I am not sure if I could cope with a 13.9" screen for gaming and it has a kepler 870m (as there is no maxwell 870) so I think heat may be an issue with that one as well

Hi luke8707,

You are correct that Maxwell does not support SLI solution. However, GIGABYTE gaming laptops with GTX860M are all Maxwell (P34G & P27G)

Gibbo in your experience are the screen quality, laptop surfaces, keyboard, build quality etc the same on the x3 as the x7? Just asking to see how applicable the x7 comments are for the x3...
