Hey Guys,

Looking for some advice, Going to be going to Thailand for 3 weeks in September time with my Brother, His 34 and I am 30.

Other than trying the full moon party we have no idea where we should look to be visiting? any tips? what sites are worth visiting or missing?

Phuket - Bangla Road.
Bangkok - Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza.
Pattaya - Walking Street and Soi 6.

Should keep you busy for a while ;)

Im going to Thailand in 2 weeks for 4 weeks.

We have a basic route planned of.

Bangkok > Full moon party > Koh Tao > Bangkok > Chiang Mai > Phuket > Koh Phi Phi > Malasyia.

Those are the major places we have been adviced to visit. :)

We are doing a scuba diving course in Koh Tao if you're into that kind of thing. :)

off next week for the 3rd time.

Im off Bangkok > Samui > Koh Tao > Koh phanang

If you do go up near Chiang Mai, make sure you visit a little town called Pi , beautiful little place.

Also if offered cannabis/other drugs at full moon, do not accept. Usually a trap

Go to Chiang Mai and do a trek in the mountains of the Golden Triangle. We walked up a mountain, trekked on elephants across the top and rafted back down. We stayed with local villagers. There's also an elephant training farm, snake farm, and orchid nursery in Chiang Mai. You can go to watch kickboxing, too.

The coastline in Krabi is the mad notes.

With three weeks i'd try to stay in the same region, maybe two regions at a push.

I would spend a little time on Koh Tao, Koh Phangan (full moon party island) and also Koh Samui. I would say two weeks is enough. All three islands are within a short boat ride of each other.

That leaves one week. I'd spend it in one place - maybe Chang Mai? I'd do chang Mai firth tho so the latter part of your holidays is spent on the beaches :)

I've Been a few times

When I went with a friend we only booked our main return flight to Bangkok and our itinerary more or less consisted of

Uk-Bangkok - booked cheap flight to Phuket on arrival, taxi to khao San road and got a b&b for two nights costing around £25 between us

Bangkok to Phuket - landed at Phuket and got cheap accommodation at patong beach for 3 nights

Phuket to phiphi island - booked ferry to the island which cost about a tenner including transfer , got hotel here for a few nights but ended up staying longer due to sickness , also booked some flights to samui online

Phiphi to koh samui - booked ferry to krabi then taxi to airport, again accommodation on arrival
Stayed here around 4 nights then flight back to Bangkok and back to the uk

Be sure to check accommodation before handing money over as one of the rooms we were shown was a dirty dark damp wooden shed that was boiling hot inside, infact I'm sure it was a dog kennel!, luckily there was some apartments that were pretty decent for only a fiver more

Last time i went I took my fiancée , same itinerary except staying in Bangkok for 3 evenings at the end of the trip at the 5* Lebua tower club (hotel in hangover 2) awesome hotel, the rooms are massive more like suites with balconies overlooking Bangkok and tons of quality complimentary food/drink

we booked all accomodation and flights before going and got some decent rooms for cheap! except for the 5* which was still reasonable compared to uk prices

Damn I want to go again lol

Pai – Stay at Mr Jan’s if you can find room. Take a trip to Burma from here, even if it’s just to cross the border to get a stamp and come back in again – some Canadians I went with paid a visit to the local pharmacy in Burma –Interesting stuff you can buy without a prescription!

Chang Mai – ‘Monk Talk’ is interesting, you can also get cheap tickets to watch some local Thai boxing here (watch your wallet). Can also visit elephant sanctuaries and trek through a bit of jungle to stay with some Hill Tribes.

Koh Chang – Beaches far less crowded than other islands, especially lonely beach, you can make the trip from Bangkok by bus easy enough.

Bangkok – Kao San Road, also the road that runs North east from Kao San. Floating Market, Grand Palace and Sky Train.

Go to Laos!! you will regret it if you don't.

Why in that order? You'll lose time travelling with all the up/down/up/down!

If you want to dive do it at koh tao and do it with easy divers. Unlike most, they don't have a pool so you actually dive straight away rather than spend a day in the pool.

There's some great kayaking outside Krabi.

Samui isn't great, but worth a night or two. Spend more time on koh tao.

Thailands tourist spots is perfectly safe.

When i go to thailand next april, I plan to go no some trips hopefully i can go to vietnam and cambodia at the same time, they also do these sail boat trips along the coast of thailand that look good. ko san road is the main tourist road in bangkok i think.

I've been in Thailand for about a year and a half now, here's where I'd go:

Bangkok. I'd recommend staying in a hostel/hotel away from Khao San road, staying on Sukhumvit road would be better. Khao San road is crap, but if you do go then it's only worth it for the bars, be careful for scams and pickpockets around that area. In Bangkok you should go to visit Chatuchak market if you're there at the weekend, Siam Paragon for shopping and cinema, Soi Cowboy if you're into that, MBK for cheap fake clothes, and wherever else for touristy stuff.

If you go north, go to Chiang Mai, Pai and optionally Chiang Rai. In Chiang Mai you can do trekking, cooking and all kinds of touristy things. It's a fun place, I spent a year there. I'd recommend going to Tiger Kingdom and do some trekking with elephant riding. Pai is a really relaxed small town, you should rent scooters and go to the canyon, hot springs and watersfalls. There's a nice hostel called Spicy Pai which I stay at when I go there, it's a little bit out of town but walkable. If you have time to go to Chiang Rai, you should go to the white temple called Wat Rong Khun.

I haven't spent much time in the south, but I've been to Koh Tao and Koh Phangan. You should go for the full moon party, then head to Koh Tao for some diving. You can get a Padi diving license for a couple of hundred pounds with 5 or so days of diving and accommodation included. The company I used was called Bans Diving Resort I think. You can also do a snorkeling trip which takes you around the island to see the different places, I think I paid about a fiver for it. Avoid any jet skis, you'll definitely get scammed.

Other than that, my friend says that Krabi is good, but I haven't been there yet.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know the name of the bar/Club in Pai that is built over the river on Bamboo. Was only in there one night, but damn it was a good night.

** edit. Never mind googled it it, and apparently its called Pai Bamboo bar

In Thailand right now (Samui to be exact). Just came from Phuket where we were suppose to spend 3 weeks, but decided just to spend 1. We stayed in a resort that was on Kata beach, which was a beautiful beach, but it was high tide most the time we were there (I'll post some pics later).

Here's my advice (this is my third time to Thailand)... Do not go to the main beaches on Phuket, they are pretty awful. By awful I mean absolutey packed full of tourists, horrible buildings and are not even that nice in terms of beach quaity to begin with.

If you absolutely must go to Phuket avoid places like Patong. Stay in Kata for 5 days max and then just venture around the island as necessary.

I love Samui as it has much more of an island feel than Phuket. Plus with the neighbouring islands of Phangan and Tao, you really are spoilt for choice. Not to mention you can do everything activity wise on Samui (ATV tours and such) that you can on Phuket. PLUS they just opened a giant new mall here on the main street, that even has a luxury supermarket with Waitrose products.

My ultimate Thai holiday would probably be 2 weeks in Samui in a luxury resort (which I'm doing now) and then a week in Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai has some of the most amazing hotels I've ever been to... Stay at the Ping Nakara. You will not regret it. Then go to places like Tiger Kingdom and whatever else interests you.

Bangkok is great if you're on your own and can just explore and do shady things, but otherwise it's a pretty dirty, smelly and ugly city. I do like it, but I can see how many people would not

That would be my initial advice!
