sandybridge 2600k vs latest

cheers guys :(

I may stick a bit more ram in, sort the hard drives to suit and carry on. The machine is quick enough for my needs but you know what the bug is all about... :(...

I cant believe 3 years has passed so quick. great investment .

I wouldn't worry, you got lucky there.

Intel have not come up with anything so far that makes the 2600k in any way replaceable.

Personally I would buy a new GPU. Always a great way to spruce up a rig :)

spend the money elsewhere,

the 2600k is the new q6600 :)

got mine running at 4.8ghz and I honestly cant see any reason to change it. the newer chips are only about 10% at most better on the IPC but the sandys higher overclocking more than makes up for it

Yup... the mobile/smartphone revolution has pretty much gimped PC CPU performance. I still have my Q6600 running strong as our second family PC. Only really built a new machine because I got bored after 5 years!! Ran every game I threw at it just fine.

I remember when an upgrade at 6-8 months gave you a noticeable performance improvement. If you'd told me I could carry on using the same PC (bar a GPU upgrades) for more than 5 years, 6 years ago I would have thought you were mad.

I love my SSD, 240 Pro, one of the originals. Best upgrade ever. When BF4 64 conquest loads I am always one of the first into the game which means I get to steal the MAA before Stulid gets his hands on it :D
