Baby P boss Sharon Shoesmith awarded £680k payout

The failure was by the minister not following procedures to the letter and allowing the come back counter suit that they would lose.
Will the minister responsible be paying this personally?
No, taxpayers will.

If there is a defined legal process, if you want to win votes by getting rid of someone, you better damn sure do it right.

It wasn't the first child to die under her watch.

So maybe he should have sacked her right and with due process. Or perhaps even had some oversight in place to see how many child deaths were occurring, and should things have been stopped earlier.
He cost us the guts if a million.
He is an idiot.
He is shadow chancellor.

I kinda think the abuse and subsequent death of Baby P was more significant than this particular Balls-up.

Uh-huh.
Do you hold the person in charge responsible?
If you do, then you either charge her, or sack her.
If you do either, you do it correctly, so you don't lose the opportunity to correct.

The entire process was error strew, from everyone that ever met the child, right across the spectrum, and right up the chain, and the error continued after his death. The errors even continued in the sacking of the person in charge.

When correcting errors, try not to make one of your own.
Mr Balls messed up.
He cost the taxpayers nearly a million pounds.

Well done ED balls.

She's not the first person to do quite nicely out of their mismanagement of the case. Pity the whistleblowers got ****** over though. And they wonder why it's such a mess.

As others have said the minister went to appease the idiots and the press who were howling for immediate action.
His political interference cost the tax payer the money, as he ignored every single bit of employment law and not only ran roughshod through the proceedures, but rammed a bulldozer through them.

And one of the sad things is, it was largely political and ministerial level decisions that led to the situation where the child wasn't protected properly - from memory there had been massive cuts in funding for the child protective services so there were not enough case workers, and the ones who where there were massively overstretched with not enough time to do their jobs.
Whilst the head of the department should have done better, it's quite possible (indeed likely) that given the conditions and funding the department was working with, they would still have missed things:(

And unfortunately the situation is probably going to get worse across the board with the cuts to social services, mental health and even benefits etc.

The media witch hunt and ed balls knee jerk sacking is why she got compo. Anyway baby P is more than one persons fault, it's the whole system, having studied baby P it's just a massive systemic failure on multiple levels. Not much has changed today sadly, due to government cuts we just don't have time and are carrying huge caseloads

The "family" were visited 60 times by various people from various agencies.

I understand you are coming from but can't blame cuts in this case.

Good to see the incompetence of the labour government continues to impact the country.

Shamr the op will continue to blindly vote for them and their incompetence in the future.

What about the Tory incompetence with regards to arms licences and Russia, I haven't seen you chirping up about that.

What about the Tories cutting children's social care and increasing the time social workers spend chained to their desks instead of out there in homes, all thanks to Tory scum bag Gove

I haven't seen a thread about it and don't care enough to start one.

Haha Dolph has got to be a gimmick account surely? TORY GOOD LABOUR BAD

Not particularly, the tories and the coalition have done bad things too. However, they have nothing whatosever to do with the subject of this thread, the events of which occurred entirely under the previous administration.

So how is that relevant to the death of baby p and the out of process sacking of shoesmith which happened entirely under labour's watch?

Have you got any similar examples under the coalition? Or are your just blathering again?
