BMW and M Power Owners

Some kind person broke my right-hand kidney grille, added 3 paint chips and managed to pop out one of the "fog light" covers on my 3 week old car. Obviously no details were left.

I went to BMW this afternoon to get these issues fixed, so I decided to change the grilles for the M Performance black ones at the same time.

Odd how the parking bay lines extend onto the pavement. I've genuinely never seen that before.

London :( Lack of space means that they have to improvise. Fortunately it's a cul de sac so there's very little foot traffic.

I'm a Londoner born and bred but moved up north 13 years ago - I don't miss it at all, particularly driving around the city

In terms of disability access I'm amazed the local authority sanctioned that parking bay.

I hate it more and more every day. From a career point of view, it's unfortunately the best place for me to be.

I never thought that my dodgy parking space would create so much interest :)

I've had my E92 335i for 5 years now (almost to the day) and it's getting a bit long in the tooth now so I'm starting to think about possible replacements for it.

With that in mind I wandered down to the BMW dealer near work this lunchtime to have a look around.
The 4 series is the obvious like for like replacement, but with fancier toys, and I saw they had a 435i Gran Coupe in the showroom.

In pictures it looks too close to the 3 series GT, but in the flesh it's unmistakably a 4 series.
It's certainly a nice looking machine and definitely on the list as a possibility. I think I'd prefer a Gran Coupe over the regular version as it still looks the part, but has the extra storage flexibility with the hatch.
The rear visibility was poorer than I expected though, it almost seems as though the rear window should come further up.

I don't plan on buying new, so will be keeping an eye out when these start appearing on the used market.
Obviously I'll organise a test drive in the mean time though.

Also had a sit in an M4.
Again, much better in the flesh than in pictures. I was underwhelmed with it from photos, but it has mucho presence up close.
If my heart ruled my head I'd probably be looking at one of these :p

Just spoke to a bmw garage about bringing my own oil for an oil service. They said they would only accept 0w30.

Why won't they accept Mobil 0w40 even though it's part of bmw long life?

I don't know, why not ask them? Nobody here is going to know, its individual dealer discretion as to whether they even allow you to use your own oil at all.

I must admit I am really not a fan of the 4 series. It looks bloated, like something is wrong proportionally.

It must be a day for it as some €$¥% opened their door into my drivers door and then let their sun cream smothered brat rub there way down the car. Not as bad as yours just bloody annoying.

Do like the front grills in black, might do mine when I get home.

Aww man, I feel your pain :( Is the door dented? I'm just counting down the days until it happens to mine.

Here's a (terrible) picture of the damaged grille. You can see that the two black struts on the left are broken, and the chrome bit has been pulled away from the car. I don't have any pics of the paint damage or the fog light cover sticking out.

You'd use another place simply because they wont let you use 0w40?

Yes because my oil consumption is ~500miles at the moment. Other people have suggested trying 0w40.

Could anyone with the new 6 Series and a sunroof help out please...

Can you vent and close the sunroof with the push of a button? I tried this on a Gran Coupe today and the sunroof closes then vents again (i.e doesn't close). The only way to have it visible but closed is to fully close it (so the roof is opaque) and re-open which sounds odd.

Many thanks.

I'd really love one :) But the F10 will have to do!

One day!! :D A mate at work has just purchased one after he sold his 335i vert, very different beast to the E93 of course (and my X6 lol) but it's absolutely gorgeous inside.
