Not exactly momentous news, but I hadn't seen it mentioned on here. Costco in Liverpool have recently opened up a fuel forecourt. It's members only but their fuel prices are the cheapest in the country. :)

Currently the prices stand at:

Unleaded - 126.9p
Super - 129.9p
Premium diesel - 129.9p

Not bad. :) They're planning to open more and apparently they've been very busy since launch. Their attendant said the place is never empty, and at present local prices the next cheapest is petrol is 129.9 and diesel is 132.9. The super unleaded is the biggest saving as the next cheapest is between 134.9 and 138.9ppl. :D

Just a heads up for anyone local, and tough cheese for those who are further afield or not members. :p

Hovis.

Thanks for letting us know I have a Costco membership but hardly ever go so was unaware. Only live 15 mins away from there so will go down there if it's meant to be that cheap. Every penny counts wen I'm doing a daily 50 mile round trip in a car that gets 25mpg lol.

Not that low unleaded is 126.7 at my local Asda, although diesel is 131.7

As per the PetrolPrices link provided they were the cheapest in the country at the time of writing. I filled up a few days ago so perhaps the price has changed since then. They're certainly by far the cheapest in Merseyside at the least. I'm definitely not complaining :p

Indeed, excellent way to lure new members in. Reduce profit on petrol to minimum, make up in the warehouse.

They really do know their stuff.

Hopefully this forces the competition to lower prices :D

Does it?

I'd actually be really interested to see the stats.

Why wouldn't it? If you're going to the supermarket to fill up with fuel, a lot of people will just do their shopping there at the same time.

And yet other non supermarket filling stations can usually match their prices without going bust? Kind of implies the days of subsidising the fuel with profits from the main shop are over.

ooh this going costco wide?

Click the Hovis link in the OP and you'll get a bit more info on planned sites. Not every Costco is getting one, but it seems the general idea is to open one wherever there's enough adjacent land to do so. Good news. :)

For the people saying it's a penny or two cheaper on their end of the country, that's not the point. While they WERE the cheapest in the country at launch, nobody's trying to say that will always be the case. What is important is that they're still 3ppl cheaper than anyone within at least 10 miles here. In fact they're up to 10ppl cheaper for super unleaded, which of course is a huge improvement. Since we shop at Costco anyway it's obviously pointless to fill up elsewhere for a relatively large premium, and since others locally may likewise benefit I decided to start a thread.

bloody scousers

:p

I'm not really Scouse but since I've married one and moved here, I may as well be lol.

Well to be fair, since Costco are 3ppl cheaper than the supermarkets that implies that either:

1) Costco are selling below cost (unlikely)
2) Supermarkets are not relying on groceries to subsidise fuel

I think 2 is most likely. (Edited for my fat thumbs)

They're not selling below cost, it won't happen.
