Risen 3 - Titan Lords

Really looking forward to this. I loved Risen 1 and the Gothic games, but couldn't get into Risen 2 because of the pirate theme. I much prefer classic/dark fantasy of the earlier games and Risen 3 looks like it's going back to this which is great. Looking forward to getting into a new RPG.

The combat looks like its improved loads. I also like the fact it's not too linear. There's a bit in that video where it says you have to pick your battles carefully as you might stumble across much stronger enemies that you simply cannot beat at that stage of the game, but if you go back later with better gear and experience you stand a much better chance. <- This is why I love the Gothic and Risen games. Most RPGs of this type don't have that danger when exploring. Most guide you along a path with a series of mobs you can safely handle. So boring! Having something to measure the progression of your stats and gear is really satisfying but for some reason its completely redundant in a lot of RPGs. What's the point of having stats and gear that just scale with the rest of the game.

I'm a huge Gothic 1 and 2 fan and I enjoyed the first Risen too. Yes, the pirate theme in Risen 2 was an odd choice, I don't think it fit the universe and the combat.. terrible! Worse than Gothic 1 combat.

That being said I'll wait a week or two after release before buying, unless everyone raves about it like they did for Divinity Original Sin.

Gothic and Risen totally passed me by although I do like this game type I think the reported bugs of the Original game put me off. The trailer look good as does the the trailer for Risen 1.

I like the dialogue in Risen games....some chars make you laugh like Slick in Risen 2 :p and can't wait for this one.(hahaha 3mins 55s in that video xD)

Pre ordered it for $24 from the guy who sold the Divinity Original Sin game for $19.

Do Gothic games have funny adult dialogue too? also is it worth starting from part 1?

The Gothics and Risen had a few jokes here and there but I wouldn't say humour was a focus. It became one in Risen 2 which is not surprising given the pirate theme.

My house move has been delayed a couple of weeks so I will have a go at this on Friday. It has already pre-loaded on Steam.

Andi.

I despised Risen 2 when it first came out and stopped playing it in disgust after a few hours but I got the urge to play an RPG a few weeks ago so I reinstalled it. I just finished it a few days ago and surprisingly enough I thoroughly enjoyed it especially for the goofy pirate humour.

Bring on Risen 3 as I love janky German RPG's:cool:

PC Gamer US (83%)
-Combat quibbles and muddy graphics do little to spoil the fun of this enjoyable RPG.

Strategyinformer 8/10
-Despite still having a few issues Risen 3: Titan Lords is a vast improvement on Risen 2.

Cramgaming 8/10
-If you’re a fan of action role playing games, then there’s a lot to like about Risen 3 which offers some pleasant and open ended adventuring.

TPreview 7/10
-Overall Risen 3 is an entertaining RPG. It doesn’t innovate or set any new standards, but it is fun and much more challenging than the standard fare.

Gameinformer 7/10
-While Risen 3 doesn’t have great combat or an enthralling story, there’s a lot of content to delve into for those hungry for an open-world action/RPG, and that might be enough to entice fans to give it a try.

Escapist 2/5
-Bloated in the mission department, threadbare everywhere else, Risen 3: Titan Lords is cobbled together from rehashed material, and the series' many flaws are enhanced a hundredfold in the process.

Doesn't look good at all. Judging by what I've read in the reviews, they kept certain things I disliked in the previous game:

- Pirate theme
- Fake open world with invisible walls and multiple islands
- Terrible combat
- MMO style quests

Considering the rush to release this game, the recycled content and the performance of the previous Risen, I think this will be the last game we get from Piranha Bytes, at least in its current form.

Thing is, the company just doesn't learn!

They are as bad as Ubisoft, making the same mistakes again and again

Can't help but agree with you, seems the downward spiral for Piranha, tis a shame Risen was such a fun game for me, fighting was fun and story kept me hooked, and no annoying pirate theme ...
