** SHIELD TABLETS NOW AVAILABLE & BUNDLES FROM OcUK!! **

Oh goody, lets play internet predictions;

At some point in the next 12 months, other companies will release products that are faster/slower and/or more expensive/cheaper (delete as appropriate)

What do i win?

I think the problem is more about how close they're launching the products. I can see the point, to an extent, but it's a 239 tablet (which will drop) it's going to be up against the current and new nexus if anything

It's a bit like comparing a mid range GPU with a 780ti or 290x. Should nobody buy one of those because 6 months down the line you'll get current top end GPU performance for current mid range price.

Tegra K1 is going to be on par (and maybe slightly ahead of) the snapdragon 805. The 805 is what we will be seeing in most next gen flagship phones.

Also people seem to overlook a major feature that the K1 has, the 5th low power core for running in standby / low CPU load situations. This design has worked very well on older Tegra tablets (boosting standby time & low CPU load situations)

The two places where T2 and T3 fell down is the IO performance from the chip (no matter how fast the emmc memory is the read write performance was always slow). This was improved on T4 and i hope that on TK1 it will be totally fixed.

The battery life tests say otherwise. The first K1 tablets have very big battery's and barely last 5 hours half the normal time for tablets.

As you can see the tablets barely lasted 3 hours on avenge with the longest at 5 hours.

Well looking at the following :-

http://gfxbench.com/compare.jsp?ben...os1=Android&api1=gl&D2=Apple+iPhone+5S&cols=2

http://gfxbench.com/compare.jsp?ben...Google+Nexus+7+(2nd+generation,+Razor)&cols=2

The GPU on the TK1 holds its own against the apple A7 (with your precious powerVR chip of doom) and obliterated the current nexus 7 in GPU tests. It also only falls about 20min behind the N7 on battery. Id also like to see how they text battery life as i explicitly said standby & low CPU load situations.

Edit :

Also just realised the only device i can see with the PowerVR 6 series GPU is the iphone/ipad from last year ..... so its not really a new GPU .... its old news ;)

Like I said before Tegra cheats at those benchmarks. The speed you get in games is not the same as Tegra has a history of overheating and throttles the speed down. The new chip has been confirmed to throttle as well just not how much. Also if each new GPU generation more than doubles speed then how is Tegra K1 going to compete in the new generation that is due shortly? At double the speed of the 1 year old chips Tegra is expected to be slower then the new gen. If Apple use an XT chip which doubles the cores and increase the Mhz that means more then double the speed.

PowerVR 6 series is a line of GPUs you have the G6050 at the very low end all the way up to GX6650 at the high end. The G6050 will be much slower then a Tegra K1 while the GX6650 should be much faster. Its another reason why Tegra fails to gain market share. One size does not fit all. Not all PowerVR 6 series are a match for K1. The low end chips use over 70% less power and are slower. Anyway time well tell once the new gen chips all arrive and we can do more detailed look at it all. But I am betting on history repeating its self again.

Pottsey, Gibbo did say that nVidia confirmed that Furmark throttles it but you are interpreting that only the K1 does this. I understand your passion for PowerVR and respect that but to constantly state this and that and get proven wrong and basing your claims on ifs ands and maybes is a little daft. There is more to worry about than something like this cheap and frankly quite beastly tablet surely?

We will have to see how this tablet works, as all CPU's should throttle to stay safe.

nvidia says that the shield tablet has a cooling solution built into the chassis of the tablet, if its a large hunk of metal that will reduce throttling. So we cant comment on this until its shipped.

I sand by what im saying:-

I cant find any Android devices running PowerVR 6 chips on the market. MediaTek will use them but those chips are not shipping yet (they use mali at the moment) so we cant compare android running PowerVR 6 series in real life until that happens.

TK1 matches qcom and sammy's new chips like the qcom snapdragon 805, that's the reality of the situation ... no matter how much you say this is an "outdated" chip

I am interpreting like that as all the evidence I have says the PowerVR GPU do not throttle and the Tegra one does.

Most of my points where not proven wrong. I was only pointing out the Tegra chip is not as amazing as it looks at first glance. I don't see the K1 being successful but like I said before time will tell if I was right or wrong.

WTF is going on, is this thread not a store based thread to promote the new product?

Ok to ask questions etc but why is Pottsey going on a one man quest to put everyone off, due to his shares dropping in PowerVR same as the loss he took on AGEIA shares.

I came in the other day to read peeps comments but all I see is his antishield ranting's.

Always seems to back the wrong horse, then rant about it for years to come.

You couldn’t be more wrong about backing the wrong horse and I never had shares in Ageia. I have made mistakes but I am right more than I am wrong.

Nothing I post will have any impact on how the Shield sells or on PowerVR shares. I was just trying to have dissuasion on tablets and mobile GPU’s which are my hobby. The point I brought up are correct and fair comments to make.

If game streaming is your thing, nothing can touch the shield 2 for what it is, decent tablet with Nvidia game streaming made simple-most likely with next to zero faffing about and that's it's main selling point.

Sure there are other cheaper solutions, but they are all far from perfect and I doubt they can hold a candle to the Shield.

It's unique in it's own right, if it throttles, well it'll throttle, not as if it's of comparative cost with an ipad or anything.

Pottsey is allowed to hold an opinion like the rest of us btw.:)

There's having an opinion and then there's just waffling on for page after page. We all get it Pottsey you don't care much for K1 and think it will be a flop, now let the people who are interested in this or are buying it have a discussion about it.

As for saying "the points I brought up are correct", that is quite frankly laughable, most of the points you made were on ifs and maybe's so how on earth can they be correct?
