China lock city down - plague outbteak

I bet they both still live on in lab samples and likely far worse

oh there's a conspiracy theory about small pox

There is land beside my house that they wouldn't let people build on due to it being the site of a hospital during WW1 and some bits of it are still there a feet feet down and there being a tiny chance there is still smallpox virus buried in the remains or something - would have to check as it was awhile ago it came up.

And then 6 months back someone dug right through it to put a new sewer spur in...

In your opinion, US experts have different opinion.

Who cares what experts in the US think?

The fact is the experts/persons in charge in the ACTUAL COUNTRY have the most knowledge of:

- said outbreak
- their healthcare
- their country
- their demographics
- their resources
- historical data on all of the above

and quite rightly are the best people to make their own decision about their own resolution.

Some US expert talking on TV makes for good media spin/viewing figures - And not much more really.

The CDC in the US refined epidemiology into what it is today whilst also conducting bio-terrorism surveillance in 25 foreign countries. I'd trust their scientists far more than anything china has, which doesn't have anywhere near the same international respect.

The point is, it does not matter how much of an expert you are. Commenting on something you potentially have no information about is, for the best part, worthless.

The article will even corroborate this fact to some degree:

who say the response seems extreme given the information released about the case.

But what's wrong with that opinion though, when its based on experience and education? No one in this thread would be able to give a more accurate opinion for a start and I've got the necessary education, but lack the experience.

Because that opinion, as reported in the media, is a calling for "China is being over-zealous" and "There MUST be something else going on" speculation.

It's seemingly just media tripe.

It probably is media tripe lol. Its not the first time the media puts words into peoples mouths after all.

Mickey, please avoid Suzhou (just in case you do have it :p) on your way through to Shanghai as I'm in Suzhou at the moment and I want to be able to fly home next weekend!

I'm going to be spending a day Suzhou :p but I won't get there for 3 week or so so you'll be safe!

Come prepared for heat! Not sure what it is like up North at the moment but it's a tad warm in Suzhou at the moment. Glad with have a little rain today. Smog levels are also quite low too which is a nice relief as when I visited in late Feb / early March they were pretty bad.

What are your plans whilst in Suzhou?

It is HOT here in Zhangye. Not as hot as it was around Hami, thankfully I avoided Turpan as it is boiling hot right now in the Turpan Basin.

I only have a day in Suzhou so will just wander around and maybe try and do a sketch of a canal if I can find a spot with few people. I've heard there is a good traditional theatre there too?
