Hi all,

A week after building the frame, attaching all of the joists, and laying half of the boards, I come back to the decking to finish the rest to find a rather large crack in the frame. Is this going to affect the structural integrity? I need to screw a face board to this wood too! I'm at least tempted to fill the gaps.

Thanks

It's a drying/shrinkage crack, thats the nature of wood.
As for structural integrity it will be fine, filling it will make no difference to strength but if it makes you feel better then go ahead.

Thanks. Wasn't sure if water getting in and collecting, especially in winter. I might fill anyway as a front decking board will be going on. It will be fully oiled first.
