is it just me or seemingly more and more websites are starting to manipulate the best selling filter to show items they actually want to shift ?

Just looking for some clothing and use the "best selling" loads of expensive items pop up , most have 0 reviews and maybe 1 question in the Q&A part for that item of clothing.

Now if these really were the best selling items surely there would be many reviews and questions asked?

now altering the filter to lowest > highest suddenly items with tons of reviews show up? makes no sense

Example
u6v6xEE.webp

Y8QKQO0.webp

surely those creams with thousands of reviews are the best selling items in that category ?

I've noticed a similarity on multiple websites now and find it rather misleading

"Best selling" is usually based on recent sales. Clothing is likely to be updated every season, so isn't ever going to have as many reviews as those creams in your first pic.

yea but those 2 creams will be regular sellers more so than anything else in that category no matter what season it is or how short the best selling period is defined by.

it's the same in other categories the best selling bikes were mainly expensive ones or ones with large discounts that they obviously want to shift because there old stock

Yes they are probably manipulated, but I had not given it any thought before. So thanks. :)

Does anyone ever actually sort by best-seller?

I don't see the point, I don't want to buy what other people wanted, I want to buy what I want

I only ever filter by best seller if I need to buy a low cost item quickly, and am clueless about which one is best. If the option is available I will filter by user rating instead though.

I do it to find stuff with good reviews and real human beings suggesting which sizes in reality fit as they should but I've noticed a trend of best selling becoming "we need to sell"

Most size guides are generic and inches off and I don't like buying multiple sizes to send one back it's a massive waste of my time

Best match, best selling etc. Never look at them
Funny how default is never cheapest or whatever.
I suspect they are heavily manipulated

Op.. Looking for a mankini and lube?

Similarly it's irritating when Amazon's "sort by rating" filter includes a bunch of results for items that aren't available any more unless you want it used from a third party. How about use some intelligence?
