Do you believe in evolution ?

Perhaps He was but there were no beings capable of interpreting what was before them? It's not hard for me to accept that evolution is part of the construct that was integrated into our existence. I'm comfortable with the scientific fact that evolution is what it is and that physics is physics and that irrespective of all of this having faith isn't mutually exclusive and can co-exist with what science has interpreted in our existence.

I think it is unfair to shun people who have beliefs just because you don't understand their beliefs.

That's it, you think humans are some kind of special being. Were not. Were an animal that just so happens to be a smidge cleverer than other species and can communicate quite well.

Your thinking on such a small time scale. Stick another 5 million years on the human race and an even more super brained branch may dominate. Us smaller brained versions may get eradicated to progress the race.

I really can't understand your thinking. From birth if you were brought up in a closed environment where nobody mentioned the word god, prayers, bible stories. Would you believe what you do now? No because you would know no better.

This is what religious people do. If it doesn't make sense, lets fill in a bit to make it work.

Obviously a self replicating cell can't understand the word of God, gotta wait a few billions years for a species that will actually listen to him, and a species that speaks Hebrew.

I agree and whilst I don't agree with your assessment about a God I am willing to concede that the science that I cherish so much is based upon a foundation of unprovable assumption that I too take on faith to be true. It would be remiss of me to not give another a luxury I freely take for myself.

Faith of religion and Faith in a science experiment is completely different and is stupid to compare them.

If you really wanted to you can understand anybody's experiment and reproduce the findings for your self. Example evolution, go dig up your own fossils, go look at the fossils already collected for yourself. There its not faith anymore.

Saying you have to also have faith in proven science to defend religious faith is very petty and desperate.

That's exactly my take on it. :)

It's okay I wouldn't expect someone like you to. :)

Unlike the 'does god exist debate' you can literally tell these people that they are wrong.

or tell them they need to wait a few thousand years to see it for themselves lol....

you'd think from all the carrying around humans have done over the thousands of years we would have really strong backs, strong necks , strong arms etc

and if evolution is true we are probably devoloving right now from our dependance on technology

Depends on the beliefs. I'll shun the hell out of someone who believes literally some of the nastier stuff written in the bible. If they believe it's a good and righteous thing to stone to death adulterers, apostates, homosexuals, people who pick up sticks on the wrong day of the week, etc. If they believe that keeping slaves is totes okay, because the G-man gave humanity instructions on how to do it properly. Or, to reference another thread that appeared on this forum recently, if someone believes that women should have their genitals mutilated because an all-powerful being commands it so, that's a person I will shun as hard as I can possibly shun.

Less egregious things like simply believing in creationism... I might not shun them, but I don't think I'd like to hang out with them. It indicates a certain wilful ignorance and closed-mindedness, and I think it would be frustrating to interact with that person in any meaningful way. They would always be correct, and I would always be wrong, and I don't think my sanity could bear it.
