Insurance Company Looking at Previous Quotes

So randomly had an email from my insurance company yesterday saying the below:
"A check of your policy details against our system records has highlighted a discrepancy in the details you gave us. The information differs to that recorded on another quote with us or another company within the same group.

We have included the omitted vehicle modifications. See the enclosed Motor Proposal Confirmation Form. Please note extra condition 11 of your policy applies in respect of non-standard parts replacement."

Basically I had done a quote check on how much it would cost to get my tints declared (not sure if they are factory original or not).
Now they decide to charge me for them, very cheeky!!
Glad I didn't do a price check for a ECU modification, would have been a fun argument

Admiral did this to me (exact same wording), then demanded I take it for an inspection at my own cost to prove it.

I told them to get bent less than politely and hassled them until they gave my £20 back.

In my case it was for a remap, up to 10% power increase. Funnily enough the only range of power increase they would insure me for despite having got quotes for various increase ranges...

Well you can't blame them, it does look dodgy if you're pricing up mods, find it adds more cost, then suddenly decide to not declare them.

Not as dodgy as charging you for mods that you haven't got after checking to see if it was worth it.

So lets say I look at different cars and quotes, most people at some stage price up a silly option... Lets say I do a quote on a GTR... then a quote on a polo, buy the polo...

Will they then randomly then insure me on a GTR?

Seems ridiculous tbh

That's the argument I used with them when they tried to do this to me, they wanted to charge me for all sorts of silly stuff I'd had quotes on and I asked them if they would also be charging me for the 5 different cara I'd had quotes on. They rang me back, apologised and I've since had no problems. It is an entirely ridiculous thing to do though.

It was Elephant, I was going to add the tints as a mod however I needed to find out of they were factory fitted or not, I don't mind paying the extra compared to dealing with pita insurance if I have a prang.
I just think it's very cheeky on them to do it, specially if you try and price up how much a modification will add to your insurance

Well you can blame them.

Phoning up and asking why you quoted a few different things and confirming which is correct is one thing, just charging your card an unannounced amount of money with no prior contact because they've decided you are a liar is entirely unacceptable, not something to be brushed off with a 'you can't blame them'

This happened to me with Admiral a couple of years ago.

I ran a quote through a compare site to see what the price would be if I had a few convictions on there, including an IN10 (I don't have any, I was just curious). Took it off afterwards and forgot about it.

About a fortnight after I took the policy out I got a letter in the post along the lines of "Our systems have shown that you've failed to give details of your IN10 conviction, as such your insurance will be declared void within 7 days unless your details are amended or proof is provided otherwise".

I didn't even twig on at first what this was about until I rang them and they asked if I had put it in any online quotes. I had to scan my paper license over and we had to initiate a 3 way phone conversation with DVLA to prove I have a clean license. Seems a bit over-zealous really, suppose I'd been on holiday for a fortnight and been stopped by plod on the way back from the airport for no insurance? Then I'd REALLY have an IN10 on there.

Its used cars which may or may not of had an exhaust replaced with an aftermarket one that concerns me. Altho tbh my last car had tints only light) and a new headunit. I didnt see the point in declaring one

Admiral are rubbish for stiff like this. Elephant are party of the admiral group. What concerns me is buying a used car with a mid you aren't aware about. If the previous owner declared it then will it be on file and they deny a claim in future.

I think they will probably start with 'ignorance is no excuse' and then depending on the modification may approve your claim and deduct any increased premium from the payout. Unless as said above there is an intent to deceive in which case they'll refuse to pay out.

This is why whenever I do quotes, I don't put in to much true personal information. Date of birth and postcode, fake name and email.

lol I do that as well since they keep credit searching you on quotes. Ended up with a quote the system wouldn't give out again so had to use that one for matching my renewal. Guy seemed a bit confused to see a quote under 'Mr Abc Def', did give me the price in the end though :)

They will still payout even with mods as long as you didnt know.

I had to claim and they asked me why i didnt declare a few things.

Front splitter, rear parking sensors and a quick shift.

I just explained i didn't know they were modification if you only test drive one car how would you. I think it only works with things like that though, they did pull me up for alloy wheels as well, but the car came standard with them, so they can be a bit thick as well.

I hate the whole insurance business its just a pain.

I started doing quotes with fake details when i found out every single one is shown on your credit rating as well.
