Can God make mistakes? How many 'likes' will it take for him to back down?

what god?

DON'T QUOTE IT

This is utterly asinine. Only the fat **** believes he can fly in that scenario, if he wants to believe that he can go right ahead. The belief in the divine is as old as man and held by billions of people across the planet. Furthermore, proof in the fat ***** ability to fly can be tried and tested. You cannot test the divine, since it exists outside of the material world.

You simply cannot compare the two, not even at the most base level.

^^ is pretty much why religion will sooner or later end the humanity ;)

Not really. The divine may exist outside the material world, but when you claim something exists, then the burden of proof lies with you. There are no two ways about it.

OK fair enough. I firmly believe that all Gods and religions are an entirely human construct. If you say that God does indeed exist, whichever religion you follow, you have the belief that your god was the one(s) who created the universe. Only one (or all) of them can have created the universe, therefore they must all be the same God(s).

does that mean Prince Philip is Allah?

(Religions are funny things though it is interesting that most groups of humans around the world seem to keep on inventing them)

Haha yeah I love that religion!! Although religious people (I'd imagine) mostly see it as a joke and mocking their religion, it is basically how all religions were created, in a nutshell.

If God created the universe then who created god? God doesn't make sense.

It doesn't make sense either way.

If you believe in God you believe he has always existed, and had no beginning. This is a very difficult concept to comprehend.

If you don't believe in God/creation, then you also have an impossible task. You have to explain how matter/energy always existed.

Where did God come from?
Where did matter/energy come from?

Two unanswerable questions, surely.

Exactly right.

Also, how the hell do the religious know that God exists outside the material world ? Who told them that ? Or did they just pull that one out their ass to avoid answering difficult questions ? ;)

But it's an impossible proposition. It's like a blind person asking me to prove that vision exists. How can I possibly show them something which they will never be able to see? The only way to do that is through logic, reason and deduction: there is no material evidence for that which exists outside the material world.

That's what I've always felt. It's really a question with no answer, like Foxeye said. The answer can never be known, but to justify your religion, there has to be some sort of answer. I don't believe that there's anything outside the physical world.

Then you believe in a god without any evidence. That may be acceptable for you, and I understand that, but for me it's completely inadequate. It's a stupid answer to get around a problem that exists with religion.

Having said that, though, it's the same question as, how did the material that caused the big bang get there in the first place...unanswerable again.

The fact that people accept something does not make it real

What's your point, man, instead of taking me down this winding path of weird questions?!

You said that there couldn't be multiple Gods. My line of questioning proved that there could be?

Trying to confuse everyone, to make his stupid post sound better. He knows he posted rubbish, but rather than just accepting it..

What? Which post of mine was stupid and what am I supposed to be accepting?

yup... cargo cults are also an amusing illustration of religions forming - they've set up replica airstrips in the hope that one day those magical flying machines will be sent down from the gods again... :)

it seems humans do have a tendency to assign stories/supernatural beliefs to things we don't understand... how life came about etc.. or a coping mechanism for death/our mortality whether that be an 'afterlife' or 'reincarnation'.
