Hey guys,
Selling my MSI GTX 660 Ti Power Editions, Had two in SLi. Been looking at new cards especiaclly both of these recently, the price's are about the same and performance is similar (@1080p) once you take OC'ing to account, the 290X pulls away at higher res tho. I will possibly be upgrading to a higher res monitor in the future, providing the prices drop, maybe once more people buy into 4k.

What do you guys think?, also as a first time New graphics card buyer (660 ti's were bought used) are there any other important considerations to make? (apart from RMA for certain brands e.t.c.)

Thanks in advance! :)

290X, or 290... they are going for £300 and under, they are at least as fast as the 780 overclocked or not.

Both good cards.

As everyone above said, the R9 290s are £100 cheaper than the basic GTX780, and they are as fast, if not faster. And at the price of 2 290 XFX or PCS+ you get 1 GTX780Ti!!!! (almost)
That bonkers price.

Although your advice for the OP is good, your 0.9 mhz off a 5ghz overclock, so cannot be taken seriously :D;)

Powercolor PCS+ @ £270 is really good value. It doesn't have the best memory on it but for out of the box performance it's good. It'll overclock a bit as well if you want to but for the most part it'll be fast enough out the box. 290 = 780; 290X = 780Ti very roughly. Swings around depending on the game.

thanks for the replies everyone, I forgot to mention that I want to stay away from a dual GPU setup for now, otherwise I could stick with the 660ti's, but I'm getting a good price for both (£300) so what the heck, am I right?

was thinking of getting a high end single gpu card now and possibly sli in the future if I need the power.

not sure about the 290 or 290x thing tho, I've heard the 290 can be OC'ed to 290x level but theres always the chance it won't.

clock for clock the 290X is 7% faster than the 290, it is faster but is that 7% worth is to you for the extra money? if its what you want you should get the 290X.

when you put it that way then I guess the 290 makes more sense lol :), btw where did you get that number from?

I was in a similar position and managed to talk myself into a 780 6GB. I've been burned with AMD drivers in the past and Shadowplay is too much to lose. I just wish there was a way to make it only record the good stuff I do and not everything. Something like 'PC, Record dat!'

yeah AMD seems to have more reliability issues too, but I'm still deciding while I'm waiting for my mate to pay up the £300.

@MissChief, can I ask why the 780 6GB?, was looking at one too :)

I moved from a GTX 780 running a custom BIOS that clocked it to 1.3Ghz with boost disabled and my current 290 beats it at only 1.2Ghz!!

Waiting to get it under water and then I'll see what she can clock up too, hoping for 1.3Ghz!!

Yeah, tried the 780, went with the 290 and love it, the 290 is a proper card compared to what seemed to me a toy in the 780.

Let me put it this way, i would give the 780 to my nephew and know he will be safe with it, i would not trust him with the 290. but i do want the 290 for myself, no question.
