Do you ever have the thoughts of..

I have had a lot of family members recently tell me life is too short and to live while your young.

Im only in my early 20's and I can never really quite understand them by what they mean to the full content due to me being young and not living life into the later years. So I cant really feel or accept what they are trying to tell me on their kind of level if that makes sense :)

But I do agree with you with getting a job, wife and starting a family could stop you from living a bit as you will end up having commitments and that kinda hit me a couple months ago. So I ended up signing up at my university to take part in a study abroad programme for a year in the States which is part of my course. With the family telling me that I am only young once and seeing other older family members settled down kinda scared me so i'm quick to be flying out in a few weeks lol!

Like you said once I graduate and find a job and start a family I wont be able to have the time I have now as a student to travel and live! So the answer is make the most out of it now!

And, how exactly would you fake your death in this, completely hypothetical scenario?

Well, probably the most effective way is triggering some sort of gas main explosion. They'll assume the corpse got so mangled in the blast it was unidentifiable.

The only thing stopping me doing just this is my GF who can't leave her job... If I was single or ever break up with her I will be off within a couple of months.

It's a struggle going in most days. I enjoy my job but I enjoy travelling around more. I have the money but don't have the time at the moment. Even the two/three good holidays a year I go on (usually one 3 week and a 2 week trip in there, plus a couple of short haul long weekends) aren't enough. :(

So OP if you are single and have about £10k+ spare go for it, before you get tied down and can't do it.

Hire a RIB/speedboat, pick up a kayak/dinghy round the corner and drive out several miles, then flip it and leave in the kayak.

Make sure you dump a lifevest next to it...

The hardest part would be flipping the RIB...;)

Couldn't you just puncture the RIB? Or set it alight?

Puncturing a RIB won't do anything, it'll still float, although may get swamped in big waves. But then going out in those conditions and doing that may mean you don't end up "faking" your own death... :p

Setting it on fire would be a bit suspect don't you think?!

Possibilities though...

Could make it look like you got swept overboard without your lifejacket. Maybe leave a waterproof note attached to tell everyone exactly how it went down :p

Or just get out of the RIB, then wack on it full throttle and let it speed out into the ocean.. with a dismembered leg attached to the kill cord

Not really, get a car airbag and set it off underneath the RIB.

So, I don't get it. Why do I eat the RIBs

OP

Maybe it's time to go off in another direction.
Maybe work for yourself.

Take time out and figure stuff out.

This is what i really do wish to do :(

I cannot do it for atleast another 6 month when this contract ends. I think ill take a year out and go travelling tbh im fed up :(

I will add swanning off under a new sky whilst fun, won't actually change your outlook. At best it's a breather.
There is a train of thought that working away and waiting to retire so that you can then 'do what you want to' ends up being too late. Hard work doesn't kill you, it's the stress bought on by feelings of dissatisfaction and a lack of fulfilment that gets you in the end.

I'm not advocating drop it and screw the career. I'm advocating stepping back, and maybe in incremental steps seeing what it is that excites you about life and pursuing that as closely as you can without making yourself destitute.

Maybe take a few months off and have a breather, then remember what you dreamed about doing as a teenager, and see whether it's something you would realistically pursue .

Your having what I like to call a 'what now' moment. Go with it and maybe work out what it is your here to do. Sorry if that sounds new age washy washy, it's not meant to. :D

Edit: also, the whole if I had more money I would take risks is a fallacy and detrimental to your pursuits. Money is a tool, to commit to a life change requires incremental steps, it's a marathon not a sprint. So money wise, it can be spread out.
