Hey guys,

Any suggestions on 5.1 speakers with a headphone/mic jack in the volume dial (or even one of the front speakers)? Budget up to about £80. Prefer quality over volume, since I never crank it up loud anyway.

To be coupled with a Soundblaster Z, since the only thing the Zx has over it is... a headphone pass through. Figured I'd double up the difference and get some new noisemakers while I'm at it :)

Thanks!

I'm sure the Z will support headphones on a separate channel to speakers. as the headphone socket is amped to support headphones.

the ZX comes with a nice desktop extension but it still plugs in just like a normal pair of headphones into the back.

In essence you don't need the speakers to have a passthrough and if your headphone cable isn't long enough a Jack extension wouldn't degrade audio quality over reasonable distances.

Yup just checked

Also you could use any soundcard if you bought 5.1 with a toslink out.

but the creative Z is easy to switch to headphone and speaker in the panel.

in regards to 5.1 the MICROLAB M1910 are the best we offer

Can't tell you much about them as i've never used 5.1 but Microlab are solid brand for computer speakers we don't get many returns their quality is of a good standard on their SOLO range I'd expect nothing less from them on this model.

I hadn't realised that, cheers! It's been literally 7 years since I needed a soundcard, and 10 since I considered speakers, so I'm out of touch with what's available now :)
