Hi guys, just looking some thoughts regarding the positioning of a sensor light at the front door.

Basically, an electrician had a look at it and gave me two options

1) He could take a wire from an existing light to the new sensor light, but this would entail running conduit across the front of the house to reach the new light, and this would obviously look a bit unsightly.

2) He could fit the sensor light level with a an upstairs bedroom floor, drill a hole through the bedroom wall and use a plug to power the light. Again, this would involve using trunking in the bedroom to enclose the cable.

Option 2 would look better as there would be no outside conduit, but I'm concerned that drilling a hole through a bedroom wall would cause an issue with damp or draughts!

Which would you go for.

Option 2 would be fine if sealed afterwards.

Where's the nearest light switch in relation to the exterior mounting point?

Well, in a straight line it would probably be the switch for the outside light which is already hard wired in, right beside the front door.

Argh fair enough. Yeah option 2 seems the way to go.

Its a shame they don't do coloured cables for external work. Would make life easier and prettier.

Motion sensor or dusk/dawn?

Not that either matter, why not just ad the sensor inline with the light?

----switch------sensor-----light

Very small issue to do this, and to be honest would take no more that 10mins to do yourself!
