Don't upgrade that 2500k. It's a very good CPU, you don't need to waste it. Get a used 2600k/2700k. Like a 15% performance reduction from the latest Haswell-Refresh CPU, really not worth spending the extra. You could get 2x R9 290, 450D and new PSU and a £100 2600k easily in budget

Totally didnt see that!!

Yes, listen to the man!

Upgrading this would be pointless as the actual real difference in performance will be 10-15%.

I would agree, but depends on how much he is selling his old rig to his cuz for.

Nice time to side grade while there is still some value in his older tech. Warrenty will be running out soon too.

Your current psu should be fine.

I don't think the H105 fits in the 450D.

Oh, probably h100i then, I thought it did? If you are switching out your mobo, and going crossfire there's no real point in staying at sandy Bridge then, just go to the latest Haswell as you were planning. I specced a new psu as your current one wouldn't cope with crossfire. However, I'd just scrap it if you really want to get rid of your mobo and start a fresh

Edit, sorry yes your psu would be fine for crossfire

Why change motherboard and CPU? If you want it for gaming, your best bet would be to stick in 2 x 290 or 2 x 780 cards.

If someone posts stats of say Crysis 3 1st level average FPS in 1440p with the following;

i5 2500k@ 4.6GHZ
Z97 board & i7 4790i @4.6ghz

and the 4790i is much better...then go with that. However I will edge my bets that it wont be

Waste of 2 gpus with an i5, you want an i7 with multiple gpus. However yes, I wouldn't waste the mobo etc, sell on the 2500k and buy up a 2600/2700k

I thought the only difference is hyper-threading on the i7 which is not used for gaming.

Again, feel free to post stats of an i7 blowing an i5 out the water and I will believe you.

until then...
