Hey guys,

So if you missed my last post I'm moving to university and plan on selling my Pc and changing to a laptop which can be used for university work in lectures and gaming when I'm at home. The laptop means when I come home from university moving equipment back is not such a big deal.

I don't understand laptop configurations like I do with desktop (which I'm by no means an expert)

So my current pc specs are

PC Specs

Corsair 350D
H100i with 4x corsair sp120 fans
I5 4670k@ 4.4Ghz
Asus Maximus Gene Vi
Corsair TX650w
8gb Vengence Ram
Msi 7950 twin Frozer 3
1tb HD
300Gb HD

So I would like something better than this spec if possible

Ideally

Backlight keyboard (for night-time gaming)
15.6" screen for portability and usability
16gb Ram
SSD for OS
better CPU and GPU I don't understand the diffrences between desktop gpu and cpu power compared with laptop conter parts eg is a desk i7 just as powerful as a laptop i7?

ALSO SHOULD NOTE MUST BE FROM OCUK AS I LIKE THEIR AFTERCARE NOT WILLING TO BUILD (IF THATS EVEN POSSBILE :p )

Any help appreciated!

Well, the GT60 is £1099 with a GTX 870m. that leaves you with money for a bag, headset, gaming mouse, gaming pad, cooling pad, whatever! (i7 2.8ghz)

Or for £1259 you can get the P35w, which is ultra thin and has the GTX 870m GPU. (i7 2.4ghz)

Bang for buck, its the MSI, but portability would be the gigabyte. Sadly you cant get the perfect MSI GS60 ghost pro for that price! but the gigabyte is the closest thing.

the GS60 is excellent. very premium feeling. the keyboard is superb. the GTX 860m will have you happily playing all the current games in medium/high. The GTX870 will be getting high/ultra. obviously this varies from game to game, but is a good rule of thumb!

if you only play stem games (HL2, portal, TF2) and LoL, then the GTX 860m would do you proud!

If you're moving the laptop around then you might not want to get a bulky one like GT60.
Both MSI GS60 (GTX860 version) and Gigabyte P35W v2 should suit you well. I said GS60 with GTX860 version is because I hear the GTX870 version is VERY hot under load.

Good luck on your purchase! :)

The GTX 870M does not run VERY hot under load for the Gigabyte version, since I use it, it reaches to around 85+C which is normal but never goes over 90C and the chasis does not feel hot at all while gaming. Gigabyte have out done themselves in the dual exhaust solution on the P35W

If this is your first time at uni, then you do not need a laptop for lectures, been to two already. And if you live on campus, you can just buy a rig and go back to your room if you need to use it.
