Costco Liverpool now has a petrol station

It'll be the closest fuel depot which is probably supplied by the nearest refinery. They're names you won't have heard of unlike the many retail names you'd see turning up to fill their tankers.

Pop down, just don't block the road, that's terrorism.

In the USA, you can't use a credit card or cash to pay. You have to use a debit card, so Costco are limited to charges.

So you need to deduct the points you'd normally get from using a cc to purchase. Which can be 1.5% cash back.

They accept Amex, UK Amex Platinum is 1.25%.....

Slight shame that they dont accept other cards though, Santander offer a 3% cashback (mastercard) card.

Yes I was aware of how it generally works regarding local refineries supplying the base fuel, and the subsequent additive package being the differentiator on 'brand' differences. That's why I made a point of asking whether they had a custom additive package or just relied on whatever was supplied on the day.

The questions weren't that left field considering most brands (and supermarkets) are quick to tell you exactly where they source their fuel and what magical additives they've added. Tesco with Greenergy, Morrison's with Harvest Energy etc etc.

Regardless of where they source the fuel, it seems decent enough. Yes all UK fuel is sold 'to spec', but that doesn't mean it exceeds it or has decent detergent and other additives. The Astra is less fussy on fuel than our previous (PD based) Superb, but the Costco stuff certainly goes bang and economy and driving experience are no different so I'll keep on taking the 3ppl discount where available.

Once the Octavia is built and delivered I'll consider going back to Shell or Tesco for the higher RON super. To be fair though I don't know what real difference 97 - 99 RON is going to actually make, even though the TSI is capable of adapting to the difference. :)

It's a single petrol station operated by a (relatively) small retail operator, it will just be an off the shelf order from a depot like an independent would have to do. Costco don't have enough stores to have some sort of special deal with ConocoPhillips lined up; giving us the freshest petrol. I'd imagine their coy response was because they simply don't know :p

If you're wanting the best fuel for your high pressure fuel injector car then just put in V-Power and forget about it.

It may be their first UK based station but in the US Costco are a huge supplier of fuel. Since there are only a finite number of oil companies I daresay their presence in the US has as much bearing as their single (for now) UK retail outlet.

To be fair Costco's 97 RON is 10ppl cheaper than VPower so.... Not decided lol

of course its cheaper, it's not the same. A better comparison would be to something like Sainsburys Super, which is also 97 RON.

But we have none locally, and I'd have to drive over 8 miles to hit a supermarket selling fuel (Tesco in this case @ 134.9). As such my choices are Costco super @ 129.9, Shell at 138.9 or BP at 139.9. As such my listed options stand and I'd already made plain I'm aware of the differences.

I doubt Momentum 99 or Shell Optimax/VPower/Nitro+ (whatever it's called this week) would set a Skoda 1.4 on fire in ccomparison to 97 to make the cost or drive worthwhile, though I'm happy to make today a school day. ;)

Do you think 97 would set a Skoda 1.4 on fire in comparison to 95?
