EA launch monthly subscription service for Xbox One

PS Now seems well over priced now, and its a streaming service.

To put it another way, this is cheaper than Netflix loo.

Its a far smaller library also, it certainly should not be any higher, in reality they should give greater discount on digital (or lower them all anyways)

Not worth it as the physical games are far cheaper and you can sell them once you realise it's the same turd as last year again.

Physical games are cheaper than £20 a year? Seems like a fair deal to me though it is likely that most gamers will already have Fifa and Battlefield, OK for newbies I suppose of which there may be many, nice aftersale deal. TBH I would buy this for PS4 If you like sports as I do BF and Madden make it worth it, though Madden UT is pure evil, just pure exploitation which is indeed what I don't like about EA, microtransaction heavy games that want you to spend and then spend again constantly are the way the want gaming to go.

Misleading opening quote misleads those who don't click through ;)

EA Access membership unlocks The Vault, a collection of EA’s biggest games on Xbox One ready for you to download and play. During the beta, gamers will have unlimited access to four great EA games: FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2 and Battlefield 4™, with more titles being added soon. That’s over $100 worth of games for $4.99 a month. You can play these EA favorites as much as you want with the click of a button.

Since that's the key part of the membership, think it should have been in the opening quote really.

It's an awesome deal if you love sports games and regularly buy them - not sure what else will be added to the package though - or how often the vault will be updated.

It could work out to be an good deal going forwards - especially if you don't buy games as soon as they come out.

From what I can see you're going to get some older games and a discount on some new ones which will probably still be more expensive than the retail versions.

The problem is like to play the likes of battlefield when they come out not 12 months later however I do like the idea of trying things earlier.

I had an email from MS last night saying I could try the service as Im on the firmware testing thing but to actually get the games I'd have to pay the sub.. I'll have a look when I get home.

No interest in their sports franchises but the deal seems fair. Having said that if it is only discount on new games - which will all be digital games with inflated prices anyway - then it might not be so great. Be interesting to see what it will actually give us.

gotta say some of the anti-ea rhetoric on here is kind of tiresome. Even with the debacle of the bf4 launch and subsequent issues and the fact they ruined sim city they have done an awful lot of good stuff too.

I have downloaded dead space, burnout paradise city, peggle, sims 2 ultimate and pvz for free on origin lately not to mention I got nfs most wanted for buying sim city!

Now this looks to be a good deal for anyone who buys any ea sports titles annually, there is no pleasing some people.

So EA plan to charge people for a discount on games that are mind bogglingly over priced in the first place?

It reminds me of all the ridiculously priced watches knocking about, you know the ones that appear on sale every week with 50% off when their RRP is twice what they're worth anyway. People just see the discount and think it's a bargain...

Sony's response

“We evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect,” a Sony representative told us via email. “PlayStation Plus memberships are up more than 200% since the launch of PlayStation 4, which shows that gamers are looking for memberships that offer a multitude of services, across various devices, for one low price. We don’t think asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer.”

I'd love for you to explain how the games are not worth their rrp.

They say $100 worth of games but whilst that might be true now in about two months time both FIFA14 and Madden25 will be old hat wiping out much of that value, same with BF4 next year probably.

You're still going to have to buy the latest games and like Columbo said they will be overpriced digitally so the 10% discount won't matter, unless you haven't already purchased BF4 all you're really getting for your $60 a year is an old catalogue of no longer supported games and the ability to play new releases a few days before official release.

They say that the service "starts at $5 a month" so I guess we'll have to see what the premium packages are like.
