So I need a new monitor. I want to buy it tongiht. Got £200 but could go higher if justifiable.
I mainly game (and record my gaming), BF4, Arma3, DayZ and racing games but also use it for minimal PS work and some video editing (of said recorded games to upload to YT)

I also have on my desk a thin linux machine I'm using for some website work (if it makes a difference with dual inputs)

Am I stupid for looking at the Dell U2412 as I game or is it actually better than the figures show it to be? I'm coming from a now dead Samsung 27A750D (which was 120Hz)

Other recommendations would be appreciated if any.

Would rather have new to be fair.Just come out of a bad situation with a warranty monitor hence having the £200 to spend now.

I think it's come to;
Dell U2412 (ips and in budget but is it ok for gaming?)
AOC G2460PQU (in budget but not sure on AOC as a brand)
BenQ XL2420Z (out of budget but regarded as being good but not sure on colours, will they be better/worse than my old samsung s27a750)

If my experience with BenQ has been anything to go by I'd run a mile before using their gaming panels for anything half serious image editing wise even gaming footage movie editing.

AOC are ok as a brand - usually make solid if a bit uninspired displays though can't speak as to the color/image quality of those 2 linked above.

I would go for the Dell purely because the stand is so good, and adjustability is a big factor for me anyway.

I recently bought the U2414H and love the stand, but the IPS panel is glowing a bit in the bottom left corner, only really visible on blacks, but it's the only negative really, the colours are phenomenal as well.

I'd go for this, you play some fast paced games and you'll notice 144hz helps with this a lot, your dual 7950's will get you high frames too which will further benefit the higher hz.

+1

I got one of these suckas and it's awesome. Borderlands 2 feels amazingly smooth and responsive. So much easier to aim compared with a 60Hz monitor.

For BF4, make sure you have the graphics grunt to run it at 144Hz though...

The AOC pwns the BenQ 144Hz offerings for colour quality.

I read the review on pcmonitors and it's done a great job of putting me off it, I'm still weighing up if it's worth going for a 144Hz monitor as opposed to the Dell.

When I had the choise last time it was S27A750 or U2412 and I picked the Samsung, wondering if in a similar instance this time I should go Dell.

I'm worried that the dell will get terrible ghosting is all.

Ended up going with this;

I'd love to have the IPS panel but I can't really accept taking a drop in refresh rate when the primary use for my PC is gaming.
Hopefully a step up from the older sammy and I'm looking forward to going down to 24 as the 27 was a little too big for 1080p

i ve been looking at the same ProLite GB2488HSU-B1 24 .thinking of buying.at weekend,could you post here as what you think im also coming from a 1440p 27 inch monitor.

dunno why you'd go for that when the AOC is practically the same spec but £50 cheaper.

ah well.

it'll get the job done anyway.

yea i had a 27" 1080p screen and it was a bit too big for me for gaming, hard to see the corners of the screen when you are sitting close to it :3

Something inside me just is against the AOC monitors. Probably me being a tart but the AOC just looked a little "cheap"

Will post up some thoughts once it arrive.
