It's not funny at all. Mantle falls under AMD's product so in fact it's AMD's. There is really no argument here at all. Is it called Dice Mantle or Ea Mantle. No it's Amd's Mantle so yea it's AMD's software no matter which way you try to spin it.
Straight from AMD's site. AMD's Mantle not anybody else end off story.
Does that mean Lambchop believes PhysX ain't Nvidia's?

Dear sweet lord in heaven, why can't you guys debate sensibly rather than dragging everything into the mud the whole time. This entire forum is fast becoming a serious bugbear for everyone.
Funniest thing is you are all grown men (maybe women too?) arguing about graphicss card technologies which will be redundant in 6 months, its not like peace in the middle east or the cure for cancer...
Grow up; there are far more important things in life.... go outside, get a tan, tell your significant other you love them (even if its a cat,dog or lizard), buy a scratch card.. etc..etc..

Of course there is no argument, but you're doing your best to ignore facts because you don't like what you're reading.
First up, you try and tell me DX was done with MS, NVidia and AMD, then went on to say it was done by all 3 for DX11, completely ignoring 10 other revisions before hand and ignoring that it was created by MS and MS alone.
Now because AMD have it on their site, its an AMD only product and created by AMD. I mean really ? Google it, dont take my word for it. Mantle was created in collaboration with EA/DICE/AMD. You might not like these facts, but they are what they are.
Really, the original version of DX could have had Microsoft and 1 trillion others in the mix and it would still belong to Microsoft. It's Amd's Mantle not Amd and dice's Mantle. Sure Dice was on board but the main player appears to be Amd. There was another thread on here about design for Amd's gpu's where they outsourced some parts to other companies. The gpu is still Amd's just like Mantle is Amd's.
According to wiki it states this...
In late 1994, Microsoft was ready to release Windows 95, its next operating system. An important factor in the value consumers would place on it was the programs that would be able to run on it. Three Microsoft employees – Craig Eisler, Alex St. John, and Eric Engstrom – were concerned because programmers tended to see Microsoft's previous operating system, MS-DOS, as a better platform for game programming, meaning few games would be developed for Windows 95 and the operating system would not be as much of a success.
DOS allowed direct access to video cards, keyboards, mice, sound devices, and all other parts of the system, while Windows 95 - with its protected memory model - restricted access to all of these, working on a much more standardized model. Microsoft needed a quick solution for programmers; the operating system was only months away from being released. Eisler (development lead), St. John, and Engstrom (program manager) worked together to fix this problem, with a solution that they eventually named DirectX.
Yeah, if you read what I said, it explains all that. The version of DirectX your describing had no 3D acceleration capabilities, this was added in DX2 with the implementation of the Direct3D API Microsoft had bought from another company and re-branded.
When people today say "DirectX" they are almost always not actually referring to DirectX but to the Direct3D API, it's not the same thing. DirectX isn't an API it's just the name given to a group of API's bundled in a package.
The DirectX 3D API (Direct3D) was not created by anyone at Microsoft, they bought it as is and changed the name, then developed newer versions as time went on.
Could have ? Jesus, DX was created by 3 MS employees, their names are very readily available on a google search. 3, not a trillion others, just 3.
Mantle - Granted, It is an AMD product, I never said it wasnt I said I find it weird they do not give others credit. Just don't forget who created it with them. Without their help it most likely would not exist.
Think Uncle Petey hit the nail on the head. I'm bored with it. Made my points so i'll bow out here.
How about something like the ATI 5870.
It was sold as the ATI 5870,
It was designed by AMD
AMD bought ATI 4 years earlier
Would you call it the AMD 5870, no you wouldn't as it is the ATI 5870.
The point being it doesn't matter who designed the thing it is the name on it that matters.
Hence Microsoft DirectX and Microsoft Direct 3D.
So, when the API originally was for CAD, MS bought the company and the creator and made a 3D engine. i.e. Direct3D, which was not made before the purchase of the company or the creator. i.e. It was made by MS.
This matters so very much.
It doesn't really matter at all in the great scheme of things,

I kinda know how you lot felt when me and humbug were arguing earlier now....lol![]()

No, Microsoft bought the API that was originally for CAD/medical, changed the name to Direct3D, and added it to their DirectX API family. I.E It was not made by MS. I am not sure what part you have difficulty understanding to be honest :S
It doesn't really matter at all in the great scheme of things, however he was using the incorrect allegation that Direct3D was made by 3 guys at Microsoft to justify another argument relating to AMD/Mantle/etc, so proving him wrong was relevant to the discussion.

Not biting, get up earlier in the morning![]()
