Just saw this when searching for information on Gaza.

Also appears a few other councils have already raised the Palestinian flag. Namely Preston and tower hamlets.

Is it just me that feels only uk flags should ever be allowed on a public building?

Seems as though some are choosing sides

This isn't supposed to be a discussion over if Israel or Palestine is right. Only if we should be allowing taking sides in such an official capacity.

It did cross my mind too. Fair enough if there are international visitors or something from that country present but aye...I think it's a bit off for them to do that.

Similar to the cricket teams wanting to wear bands supporting Palestine, they were refused as it would be taking sides. Being an international game, they had to remain neutral, but were perfectly within their right to express opinions outside of the tournament.

I think you're right!!

This whole thing is very complicated and both sides clearly have their motives, but it doesn't need the UK to be biased in its view.

Only the UK flag should be up!

This is how I see it. Fly our flag unless there was to be a visitor from another nation, then maybe fly their flag along with ours?

So what are these people's links to Palestine?

I honestly have no idea. None of the articles I came across made any links other than being muslim(which I feel is a bull reason. Just media propaganda).

Indeed I should have said that in the op. Foreign flags for visitors seems fair enough to me.

It should be the UK flag or if a state visit maybe a visiting flag added and nothing else. If they want to protest or show solidarity then the place for their flag is in the street and not on official buildings.

It should only ever be one of two states: our flag or our flag + other flag at the same time for visiting dignitaries. Never ever just another nation's flag.

I don't have a problem with flying the Union Jack or the flags of our close allies like France and the USA, the EU flag or the flag of a guest but not the Palastinian flag or the Israeli flag. Both are bad in my book and as there are so many different views on the subject it is going to cause arguments. Keep polotics out of it.

And also Lol it is Birmingham. No biased there then.

What about foreign embassies? Should they be allowed to just fly their own flag or should it be their flag as well as the UK flag/St. Georges cross?

You should try living in Northern Ireland. Union Jacks, Scottish flag, Tricolours, Ulster Banners, Starry Ploughs, Saint Patricks Saltire, Palestinian flag, Israeli flags, KKK flags... It's a mess.

Fair point but they're not "official uk buildings" are they? Embassies are owned/maintained by their own countries. They are essentially on their own territory so not the same.

This, and who the hell in the council is deciding to support. that's outside their remit and shouldn't be allowed.

Well obviously they are different. Whilst they are not on sovereign soil of the foreign nation they are effectively treated as they are so that is a completely different situation to a UK council owned property.

Countries are outdated and harmful constructions, nothing more than 'imagined communities' that exist nowhere in reality but in the heads of mindless puppets. Us vs Them crock of ****. Time to move on as a species.
